It's probably easier to make kits that are cheapest for them, hence brackets that require the reo to be cut as it's less piping and less bends, also good for flow...I know of ARC kits and Trust kits that don't require reo cutting, so I guess it depends on the car or more so the quality of the fitting.

When I fitted my Hybrid intercooler, it was a choice between cutting the reo and taking the thermo fan off (it would not fit any other way). I guess it comes down to the size and shape of the cooler. What I am planning is to cut the cooler down by around 100mm and either repair the reo or get a replacement one, I am toying with the idea of hiring an ali welder to do the job on the cooler, have to check it out yet to see if its worth it.

I dunno, are you ever right? Reference case and point the sr20 thread you've been pwned in. Plus its entertaining stirring you up!

First of all I dont think anyone cuts the cooler...we're talking about the reo.

And the workshops cut it because the "kit" doesn't supply correct mounts, as I said...workshops such as millenium (and many others) will make new brackets or tell you of the risk. You said its impossible to get a cooler to fit without cutting the reo..this is blatantly incorrect...all it requires (in most cases) is new brackets...most people buy hybrid kits and are to cheap to spend money on new brackets. Then again, as I said, you rarely get caught...so why bother.

meh let it slide.

im installing a GKTech FMIC kit tomorrow for a customer.. hmm another cheap brand. :D imo the GKtech has the best RB pipping kit. and JJ has the best allrounder.. the type 2 kit has great end tanks.

and besides ur all complianing about cutting the reo.. oh no.. lets not cut holes into metal.. wher u got to CUT holes into the friggen chassis anyway.. :sorcerer:

We've all seen (the pics) and heard the difference of a front end crash without a reo though...it's the first line of defence, you weaken it and you're really just opening yourself up to more pain if and/or when you have a crash. Cutting cooler holes does weaken it as well, obviously, but if the damage gets that far back it's not really going to make much difference have a 4" hole there.

Just to be clear on this matter matey, you wont get an engineer to certify a cut reo.

I just measured it up and I need to lose 120mm of cooler at the top, the cooler itself has a plate on the top for the mounts, so if I want to put new mounts on it, they the will have to be on the top of the end tanks on each side, I plan to reuse the exisiting ones and weld them to a peice of 5mm plate that will fill the holes left from the circumsion.

If anyone has a halfcut out there.........

On a side note I was discussing this with a mate and he said there must be hundreds of lines out there with this mod fault......

Let's say you get defected for an atmo BOV and you get sent to Main Rds, do they only check to make sure you've got a plumback or do they also check everything else to make sure it's all legal while you're there? (are they going to look for a cut reo bar)

Edited by so_tred

Depends on your luck, chances are they wont check for a reo..it's pretty hard to see if its cut anyway when you're looking through the radiator support and everything else, plus it sits right up against your front bar. But still, it's a risk, they're getting pretty stringent with everything these days.

If u get sent to the pits they WILL check everything... I went there 3 times with half a reo bar.. last guy noticed it but didnt care.. its how there feeling, there are no rules and u cant go by whats written.

Give AJM motorsport a call, they might hook you up.

There dodgey.

baaaaaaaaaHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • 2 months later...

Hmm...

Illegal to cut the reo..

How about the front bar?

I had to cut upwards and down on the GT-R Bar to expose most of the Intercooler.

You can't see the cuts or anything, once its painted you wont see anything.

The reo needed a 1 cm cut all around the front.

When you guys talk about cutting... what are you refering to?

Where are the cuts made?

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
