ehe, yes you do have a problem with economy...

If it is hunting at idle (always fluctuating revs) then im sure its your O2 sensor, if I were you though id be more confident with a second opinion from another person on the forums here...

manwhore wats the max latency that the injector cycle should be on consult, I have a greddy intelligent informeter and Im trying ot configure it to show percentage injector duty cycle and then set warning points. i love this thing... lol.

yeah cheers, when cold (anywhere under operating temp) it does hunt at idle. Think ive got an o2 sensor off my old 32 here might give it a try, cheers :woot:

"Hunting" is generally a sign of a gummed up AAC valve. And the O2 sensor is unlikely to be used at idle, or when the engine is not up to operating temp. So, if you only do short trips that don't get the engine up to temp properly, then you are going to chew petrol.

How to test - check the voltage coming off the middle wire of the sensor - it should be oscillating around 0.5V (say 0.3 - 0.7). If it is constantly high (1V) or low 0V) then there is a chance your O2 sensor is cactus.

You might also want to check that the sensor is getting 12V on one of the other 2 wires.

multimeter is the way to check. takes 2 mins.

measure it at idle, give it a rev, and hold it at a sustained rpm, say 2500rpm.

see if you have fluctuating volts

last skyline i checked (a friends) it was dead as a doornail, got no change in volts. replaced it and the car got an extra 50-80km's iirc (hopefully you gain some more!)

also on my skyline i changed spark plugs, cleaned afm and got new coilpacks, that gave me 2L / 100km better economy! my plugs were old though

    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
    • Yes they do. For some maybe. But for those used the most by abusers, ie Skylines, the numbers are known. The stock eyebrow height for R32/3 Skylines is about 365/375mm or thereabouts. The minimum such heights are recorded in adjacent columns in the database.
    • Hmmm, interesting. Makes me wonder whether there is bias as well. It's the cheapest fuel, so it is used for all kinds of ill-maintained shitboxes which are bound to have issues regardless. Nicer cars tend to require higher octane rated fuel and can't use it anyway. FWIW, the official NSW E10 facts page is decent.
