hey guys, just got some coilovers on the weeekend, JIC magic 12k/9k lol.. anyways ive got bbs rims 17x9 +22 offset all round. 255/40/17 tyres.

its set to 345mm from centre of hub to the guard and its scrubbing on bumps, whats the best ride height to raise it too? ive looked at the scrub marks and its just touching the outisde of the tyre, i think if it had 245's or 235 tyres it would clear it.

i dont really want to camber it as its a waste of tyre life (for my daily driving use), ive got the c-spanners also so shouldnt be that hard to raise it up.

Ever thought just make adjustments until you dont scrub? just count how many turns/clicks you make and repeat all around

errr thats the whole point of this thread lol, im asking a exact measurement that is best for ride height & handling.. other guys here are just helping out giving some other opinions of what you can do to stop scrubbing

Well best ride height is 350 - 340 for best handling.. but it is rather low .. Im actually pretty sure its even lower on a R32.. If you PM sydney kid he will give you the exact measurement for best handling. It may not stop the scrubbing though

Lipping may cause cracking but you wont see it ..

Depends where the wheel/tyre sits have you thought of stretching over some narrower rubber?

if you dont want camber run either toe adjusable rods or camber rods.. you can also get camber heads for your coils

And its about $40 a side of lipping.. It will push the guard out about 1-3mm which is not noticable tho.. $50 a side max. Go somewhere good though.. A guard roller makes it alot nicer I think.

c'mon mate half of that post is complete rubbish. you say if you don't want camber buy toe rods or camber rods? excuse me? what is a toe rod going to do (bearing mind pretty much every car on the planet has toe adjustment from factory, AND this is not his problem)? and how does a 'camber rod' not adjust camber? what's the point of it then? as for camber heads for your coils, never heard that one either but I assume you mean an adjustable upper mount for the coil-over. well that's about as usefull as a fart in the bath. you cannot adjust camber that way in any skyline.

hanyou. my advice is don't take any of this advice from decim8.

your problem is simple. your wheels are 1 inch wider than stock, and have 10mm less offset (so they are 10mm further out, plus the .5 inch). add to that the 255 tyres and the low ride high and you get interference. you need to either:

raise the car by 10mm or so

use narrower tyres (either 245 or 235 will be fine on your 9inch rim)

add some camber at the front (you need adjustable, or shorter upper control arms for this)

have the guards flared, or lipped or rolled (very risky at the front as GTRs have alloy guards which are very soft)

I would suggest you raise the car by 10mm. then down the track when your tyres wear out, replace them with 235s or 245s then you may be able to lower it back down if that's what you want.

Well I know you know alot more than I do .. So id take barrons advice..

However I didnt say NOT to use camber rods .. so im confused what your saying to me .. I said the reverse.. TO USE THEM??

I am wrong with toe rods.. yes .. why I suggested them Im very confused obviously was not totally switched on. Which was wrong of me I apoligise.. And coil heads do adjust the camber -3 to +3 if its cusco from memory.. And as I stated as a last remark "you can also get camber heads for your coils" (i.e being a last effort) Im only passing on what ive learnt .. But like I said you know alot more so Id back what you say..

We both know what is said on here is not always true and what works for one will not work for the next in all situations. I learn most things from on here and apply them to my car when I can.. With this I have not tried any just researched them...

Obviously you are a person with alot of background in this and im just a guy who wants to help out a guy who has no idea what to do. In saying this I only tried to help and no one corrected me or questioned me until you, now ive learnt my mistake and amended it..

So I stand corrected..

the pillow ball upper mounts, or camber plates DO NOT WORK on a skyline. They are used on cars with what is none as macpherson strut type suspension (silvias, 180s, GTI-Rs and most other povo cars). Skylines have dual wishbone suspension meaning the length of the upper and lower arms is what controls the angle (camber) of the upright. in the other mentioned cars the shock itself is the upright so adjusting it's mounting adjusts camber (and castor). you can't do that in a skyline. you need adjustable upper arms.

you are almost on the right track with these, but they are only suitable for the rear of the car. he is having problems with the front end.

and to help further. camber rods is not a comonly used term. I think you are combining castor rods and the word camber. there is no such part as a camber rod. in skylines to adjust camber you need one of these:

adjustable upper control arm

adjustable lower control arm

adjustable offset bushes (for upper control arm)

any one of those three will do the trick. the most common is to change the length of the uppper control arm either with the offset bushes in a factory arm. or by using a replacement aftermarket arm that can be adjusted in length.

    • I was using the wiring diagram I have So 12.74V is coming into the rear Fuel Pump relay as I measured.  When I turn the key to ON im getting 0.6V to the Fuel Pump plug; which i assume is backfeed voltage and doesnt include the 12V from ignition power.  The rear relay is working and being triggered.  From the diagram I clearly see the rear relay 80 = Rear Relay going into the Body/H loom (R-27) 27 = Fuel Pump plug going into the Body/H loom (T-20) 40 = Short Connector (R-27) I'm reading 12.74V on the blue/black wire which is the power for the Fuel Pump   From this diagram I can see the Ignition relay goes into the front and up to the ignition  2 = Fuel Pump Relay <1M> (R-27) 37 = ING Relay <1M> I started from the pump using this reference Which the way I read it (referencing Nissan wiring color codes) is: Pin Wire Color Function 1 B/P (Black/Pink) Ground 2 L/W (Blue/White)        ECU Trigger 3 SB (Sky Blue) Fuel Pump 5 L/B (Blue/Black) 12V Constant Tested SB to SB on Fuel Pump for continuity - confirmed Tested negative on Fuel Pump to 12V battery and L/B - confirmed 12V Pulled the relay putting 12V between Pin 1 & 2 and testing continuity on Pin 3 & 4 - confirmed relay   So that has me looking at this part of the circuit to understand whats happening here...and im still confused. From best I can tell; the disconnect is back to my previous diagram; between Ignition Relay and Fuel Pump Relay...which yet again; afaik is where the immobiliser should.    Thats what I was trying to explain to GTSboy; im not trying to fix it myself; yet I seem to have to get a Masters in Electrical Engineering (while im busy doing my actual job of DevOps & Cloud Engineering) somehow.  I just wanted more expert opinions; or more so that what I tested is correct and proves it to something around that area; to go back to the alarm tech (for a 3rd time) that he needs to fix it. He keeps telling me its not the alarm. He lives on the complete other side of the city so i understand not wanting to make a trip but as I said before if its the alarm it should be up to him to fix it. But he's adament its not; even though I pointed out the FP was immobilised through the original alarm. To my mind; it seems that the ECU is sending the signal; but the ignition is not getting 12V down the line.       
    • Maybe also really stiffly sprung track cars. Get the inside wheel up in a corner and all the fun stops. Also me sometimes (rarely) when I have to stand on the brake to convince the diff to drive the wheel that is still on the ground when I'm trying to diagonally get over severe driveway entrance, etc.
    • I feel like I'm missing something. You had an authorised installer come out and install a new alarm. Post install the car doesn't start, and you aren't getting the installer back to fix what they did wrong?
    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you  
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
