This is pending the sale of the skyline but it is looking like I have found a buyer... Now I am struggling to make the next decision... what car to get next...

I have narrowed it down to 2 cars...

Second hand Mitsubishi Evolution IX

Brand new Subaru Forester XT Luxury

Now I am thinking the forester is a probably a better idea for many reasons as it's the good compromise between still having a fun car and having some comfort eg leathers seats, softer ride, sunroof etc...

But then I think but what if...

I got an evo IX for 2 or 3 years sold it and then got the "family car" I am still young and don't really have a need for the larger car for at least 1 1/2 - 2 years when we move into the house to do the renovations... the evo would be a lot more fun but like the skyline it would be driven 85% of the time by the missus so I wouldn't get to drive it all that often...

AHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am pulling my hair out... Jayce I think I might have to post up on the forester forums for a ride with someone that had a semi-modified forester as in stock form they just feel rather slow :P

Some friendly advice from fellow SAU peeps would be appreciated. At this stage I am still leaning towards the forester

I vote Evo for the 1.5-2 years you'd own it, then get the grown up car.

You've been talking about an Evo for ages, why not satisfy that desire while you still can?

EVO EVO!! *chants*

even if Fi drives it during the week, think of the grin on your face come the weekend! :) have some fun while you still can and leave the "family car" for when you actually need a family car :)

Hmmm some very valid points. I guess it may come down how quickly i need the car, particually with the amount of shitty weather we have been having lately.

I have an EVO 9 MR Edition and I cannot fault it there such a beautiful car to drive honestly... but get the Japanese version not the Australian Standard big difference trust me

I think you mean you have either an 8 MR or a 9 RS... you can't bring in an Evo 9 MR unless it's a personal import and i am pretty sure they have only been out for about a yer :) either way i know what you mean hehe

You all make good points but they are to old and to long looking for me :D and in regards to the extra 0.5L capcaity yes over the old models but not the new ones they have a 2.5L as well the boxer style engine sounds nicer (although everyone will think a rex is coming :() the one i am going to buy has a sunroof who really needs 2 :P

Again thanks for the feedback all but i have been in touch with a dealer and will be buying a Brand new Subaru Forester XT Luxury. Depending on the colour i get (at this stage urban grey) i am looking at a 3 - 4 week wait so will be coming out to show off the new toy.

datto260z pretty much hit it on the head... if i was going to get an evo i would only want to keep it for 1 1/2 - 2 years max. I would be buying at the worst time as at the moment it is the most recent model and still worth a bit. I would be selling around 6 - 12 months after the evo X (10 for those of you who don't know roman numerals :)) which would be forcing the prices down pretty bad.

Have you thought about the Evo wagon they released? I don't know if they made very many though.

Terminal i have seen some and they are actually ok looking but again same as above + i am not sure if they can be imported even though locally there was no Evo IX wagon the evo IX sedan was sold and i think like the forester STI it would have to come in as a personal import (own it for 12 months in Japan)

The subaru's have a great re-sale value i was actually looking to buy a second hand 07 XT Luxury forester and go figure it is actually cheaper for me to buy a brand new one in almost all cases (compared to tradingpost.com and carsales.com) + I have been given permission to do some mods over time so should be good fun when she gets a little more power.

it's only what 20 - 25 years till i am allowed my mid life crisis car who knows what fun cars will be out around then hehe

what about one of these Leigh... they've just become available to import according to prestige... I like it!

Toyota Caldina GT-T

Under SEVS we get the top of the line GT-T model (ST215W) which comes with the turbocharged 260PS (191kW) 3S-GTE engine, and 4-wheel drive system like the Celica GT-Four. Transmission is either 5 speed manual or tiptronic automatic.

Agreed they are not to bad Michelle but i think i would take a Stag over one :D

I just put the deposit down on the forester i think in the long run I will want mine to look something like either of these two cars... well thats the intention at this stage.

I wonder what a set of TE37's would look like on a FOZ

    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?
    • Get it on a dyno. Get something logging Consult. Run it up and find out what is causing it.
