Depends when you say 'big' these like many others are a good value rods sourced from either china or taiwan same as eagle and scat (been to the factory) i have used similar rods in crazy SR's and CA's with no issues when the budget did not permit for better items.

They are no Carrillo or pauter... but not everyone needs that type of quality, look at you budget and the quality of the other components going in. No point buying chaep rods if the pistons are worth a million bucks and vice versa... no point buying killer rods if the pistons are cheap etc.

They're excellent quality for the money I'd say and they come with ARP2000 bolts. I have a set sitting here ready to use and they look the goods. With the power some workshops are creating on standard rods, these should be capable of some serious horsepower.

Under a thousand bucks for a set with bolts is great value.

have anyone heard of spool conrods ?

how are they compare to other big brands ?

any experience with them ?

thx

Hi

What price have you been quoted for Spool rods?

When I was building my forged RB30 bottom end I was also looking at sing with SPOOL rods, but I heard bad things, and a good friend recommended EAGLE H BEAM rods, I think thats the brand(been up since 5am, correct me if I'm wrong lol).

There is a guy on calaiturbo, username STONE_RACING, he builds a lot of forged RB30 bottom ends and can get EAGLE H BEAM rods for pretty cheap or at a good price. If you want send me PM if your keen or 100% definate on getting a set of forged rods, and I'l try hook you up with a good price, and a good set.

Apparently from what I've read, this is from back earlier this year, people say you cant go wrong with EAGLE H BEAM rods, for the price and quallity.

They also come with ARP2000 rod bolts.

Just my opinion, and what I heard at the time of building my forged bottom end.. :)

Thanks,

Abu

Let me just say that it would be silly to say that an Eagle rod is significantly better (or even different) to a Spool rod. I've heard nothing but glowing reports about them and I'm more than confident using them in my new motor. They sell for $890 a set on www.spoolimports.com website and come with bolts.

Yeah i think SCAT, ART and spool are around the same price all stocked locally

ART from racespec 0401 313163. Ive spun the ART rods to dizzy heights in some CA's.

SPOOL from spool

SCAT from rocket, autobarn etc..

ive just recently started a rb26/30 project aswell, and from wot i have researched and heard from a few ppl and websites, spool rods are more then enuf, as stock rods themselves will hold roughly around 500hp, unless ur aiming for huge HP then spool is more then enuf

    • Just had this happen to me too.  R32 GTR.   Also broke "just before going out onto the track" - someone up there is looking out for us... Very scary since I was about to do a narrow street course with zero run-off and curbs everywhere. Many people on here upgrading to billet uprights and R35 bearings?   Or buying new OEM knuckles?  I am not keen to replace with another s/h 30 year old fatigued part.
    • Top off with distilled water and see what happens. If you keep losing coolant then you know to start looking.
    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
