Would like to clarify a few things regarding the current selection of cars entering AutoSalon:

In the past few years there have been attempts to organise a SAU stand but, without much success. This was due to people dropping out/ loss of interest & didn’t want to have this problem again.

Also, have spoken to some AS organisers, they preferred if clubs are to have a big group that they at least enter x-amount of cars best suited for this type of show – rice candy &/or stupid power . As much as I didn’t like the fact but, in order to make an impression we had to be a bit cut throat on the list of cars.

So, with these things in mind, as well as, costs to come out of my pocket, we intially asked people who met the candy/ power factor & could commit for the show.

Ash it’s nothing personally, as I have respect for the mods you’ve done to your car. FYI: ‘you are in that exclusive thing’, you did enter in SCS after all & hope you’d be interested in doing again latter this year. :O

Cheers for the clarification Pat, all makes sense now and fair enough too! Was a bit confused when i heard that you were having a hand in organising it but it wasn't mentioned on here seeing as you and howie did such a good job of organising scs last year, will definitely be interested in scs again this year.

i hope there's more of the 'high hp cars' than the 'ricey/showy cars' but i guess that could be asking a bit much for autosalon!

Dan, although I dont have "stupid power" do I qualify for enjoying the drive (re: sunday) :)

i have a better power per rice ratio than u guys lol ~200 kw and no external mods. all i need is an afm, injectors and the ecu and then ill think about external crap. standard s2 body kit at standard ride height and standard wheels ftw. slide all over the joint.

C'mon lads, there's no need for anyone to get their knickers in a knot. Having seen most of your cars in the flesh, you're all guilty of varying levels of 'rice' anyway :(

And hey, there's nothing wrong with a decent sized serving of power and a side dish of rice.

If you count my car as riced it's served in small amounts & raw, not even my exhaust stands out as being modified. I guess it doesn't qualify then when it comes to their requirements.

Yeah I have been there the last couple of weeks to get fuel, on a Tuesday though not Sunday. I do vaugely remember seeing an SP23 there. The rims I've got are pretty rare & yeah I have a full stainless exhaust done by ET with twin tips so it was almost definantly me. Glad you liked it

    • Lets say I wanted to buy this, specifically for this purpose. How do I actually perform the function. Can I still buy a Consult-1? Am I about to be burned by the fact my car is a 2000 model Series 2 R34 and thus will be some stupid other system? Do I just need this -> https://obd2australia.com.au/product/nissan-consult-14-pin-to-usb-ddl-diagnostic-interface-with-ftdi-ft232r-chip/ And with what software?
    • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc.
    • Those bolts would be orders of magnitude stronger that cast aluminium though.  And its mainly clamping force, not shear they are dealing with?
    • Except all that twisting force that is breaking a cast piece, appears to be going through 4 bolts in the picture Johnny posted of the BryPar one...
    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).
