im thinkin about upgrading to a newer car.

should i keep my r33 gtst with mods, immac condition

or

buy a 2001 vx clubsport r8

what do u guys think about the clubsports as i dont know much about them eg. constant problems... etc

My mate got a vx clubsport R8 they go pretty hard, but how can u go from a turbo car to a v8.

yeah their not the best cars, their ALRIGHT but i wouldnt go from a jap car to one of them.. same with fords, i work on them everyday, and the build quality isnt there...

but id love a FORSE 6 with a few goodies on the engine.. but thats looking 60k upwards.

im just weighing it up. go for something slower, more comfy and newer and slap an exhaust only on it, and never worry about it again.

or keep modding the skyline lol, il have to spend the extra cash to buy the r8 anyways. so what to do :)

Depends why you are changing, just because its newer? Or are there other factors such as work km's, lack of police attention, insurance, reliability etc. Also what do you want to do with it such as compete?

I think Phunky Monkey on here has a V8 Clubby, could be worth a PM to him but helpful to know the reasons behind wanting to change first.

newer and less attention from cops moreso

whats your financials like?

Reason i ask is - If you plan to keep the hsv for the next 3 years, think about resale value, think about the trends, and think about what you would want to buy in the next 3 years (eg house).

believe it or not they are reliable cars, and even if you get issues with it you can pick up a whole commo motor for 50 bux lol

my cousin used to have a vy clubby r8. drove it once, it flies there's no doubt about that straight line very few cars stood a chance. it had 295kw from factory.

handling is a bit of meh but its not like an R33 is a go-kart....

thing is, he bought it when it first came out and payed 70 grand for it from a dealer, about 6 months later he sold it to the same dealer for just over 50Gs lol thats alot od money lost. could've got more if he went private but didn't have time and had to sell.

BUT R33s are going down in value too....

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
