whoa...hes like...psychic...he writes what everyones thinking...;)
and how oftem does the manual say to change engien oil?

personally, i change engine oil every 5,000kms and transmission oil every 20,000kms but that's just me - i am very into maintenance.. must be my medical training - prevention is better than cure!

I don't think it's a good idea to be changing your fluids so often. As you probably know oils take a bit of time before they work optimumly in your car. So by changing it so often your car will be having to have this brand new oil circulating through and bonding with your car. Where as if you left it in there for the specified time it would get to corrects working conditions and lubricate your car perfectly till it needs replacement.

Espcially the gear oil. That stuff is good for at least 50,000 - 100,000 k's.

Look at most new cars they have service intervals of 20'000 km nowadays.

Thats just my opinion mind you. But it's something to think about.

My G35 infinity service manual says for the premium service to replace the automatic transmission fluid and engine coolant at 30000 miles or 24 months, change engine oil and filter every 3750 miles or 6000km. For schedule 2 maintenance it only mentions engine coolant replacement every 60000 miles, engine oil every 7500 miles and no mention of auto fluid replacement. Schedule 2 is for cars doing mainly highway driving in temperate conditions.

That's a good read, but is there an import CVT expert here in Australia? There's another thread where a V35 sedan owner with CVT had problem with the transmission and not even NIssan Australia want anything to do with it because the CVT in the 350GT-8 (RWD) is totally different than the one in the Australian delivered Maxima (FWD) and Murano (4WD).

I just hoped it sorted out for him, as the last time I read in the thread is the car still off the road for months and months...

Nissan do not manufactuire Nissan J Matic themselves (Obviously) according to ELF in NZ it is a Castrol oil re branded for Nissan but not exclusive to them and available in a number of brands.

ELF produce an equivalent to Nissan J Matic called ELF T4 (Dextron III-G semi synthetic) I have had my trans flushed with this and it is working very well indeed.

Hope this helps as the N issan J Matic is very EXPENSIVE and the ELF was a lot cheaper.

Part number of the oil from NISSAN is KLE51-00004 (CVT KTF-1) it is around $250 for 4 litre's FOB ex Japan and 11 litre's is needed (from memory so don't quote me), I know of one person who paid Nissan Australia $1,500 for 12 litre's also it cant be shipped Air Freight.

We are onto the manufacture of the Gear Box seeing if they can be bought direct as per what the guy in NZ does.

Well, while doing the 'waiting for my car to get here from Japan and researching the hell out of it' thing I found this http://www.tds.castrol.com.au/pdf/2701_tra...xj_b1650_03.pdf which may or may not help. Is apparently auto trans fluid equivalent to the Nissan J Matic. I have nfi on prices though. There must be a few auto driving people who've had a atf change by now, anything new to report?

Hi All,

Is anyone sure the 350GT-8 is the only model with CVT?

About a week after I picked up my 300GT Sedan I had to take it back and get the Magnetic Clutch of the CVT replaced under warranty as a spring had broken inside it and I was getting a bloody annoying tapping at about 1500-2000 revs.

By the way is cost $3300 to replace this part.

Mine is a series 1.

Cheers

Lee

Just wondering if anyone's experienced the 6MT getting stuck in gear. I was test driving one recently, the first MT I'd tried so was just running through the gears, clutch in & not moving and the box got stuck in fourth. After about a minute of mucking around with the shift it came good and never did it again. Would you think it's just one of those things that happens or could there be more to it.Car is Series II coupe <20000ks.

cheers

Chris

You sure it was the magnetic clutch for the CVT? AC compressor has a magnetic clutch?

Never seen any reference to a CVT in a 300GT, everything I've read and seen says it has the 5 speed AT. What is the transmission model number (is on the model info plate along with the car and engine model numbers)?
