Bottlecap Wedged In Wastegate?

hey all,

i recently bought a '95 R-33 Gtst and the previous owner said that he has a bottlecap wedged in the wastegate or something to increase boost pressure.

now, as far as i know the engine and turbo are all factory spec apart from a GFB boost atomic boost controller, it did have a HKS mushroom airfilter that i took off and replaced with the original airbox for legal reasons. when the car revved it sounded like it had an aftermarket BOV (followed by big flutter) when in fact it still has the stock one still installed, he told me that it was just the boost rebounding off the bottlecap hence making the flutter.

it still does it with the stock airbox but it's not as loud.

i'm assuming this isnt safe for the engine/turbo??

my boost gauge sits on the zero mark and i've been told that it should read below the zero before the turbo spools up into boost.

is this correct??

any help greatly appreciated as i'm new to the skyline community.

he means he's got the bottletop wedged in the return from the BOV. I had to do this to check to see if my BOV was leaking.

Just undo the return pipe and knock the cap out, this'll stop it fluttering and you'll get the response back from between gearchanges also.

Was it your BOV leaking?

I'm trying to locate an intermittent turbo leak which might be the BOV, although I've done the crush job on a second one I bought, and I still get the same occasional whistle.

I was going to remove the BOV completely and put a plate on temporarily to see if I still had the noise, but a bottle cap in the return pipe would be easier.
