where in sydney can i buy up a decent 2.5tonne low riding hydraulic car jack from.for a decent price?

ive been to supercheap $169 (2.5tonne 133mm low & 483mm high) and repco $140 (2.0tonne 138mm low and 495mm high).they seem to have the same sorts of heavy duty jacks.tho i thought that they went lower to the ground.133mm was the lowest i have found.

i seem to remember a group buy a year or so ago and for $230 you got the jack and additional cups.and it was a low riding one.

somthing similar to this:

jack linkeh

there was also this thread that i have came accross.so no excess flamage occurs.

do what i do..

1st, i use a scissor jack from the side

2nd , then i use one of those $50 ones from supercheap to take over next to it

3rdly i use a proper 3tonnne jack from the front to get it right up

last of all stands...

lol

to get it down, same process in reverse

lol I can save you a step john...skip #1 and put the super dooper cheap jack under the tow hook behind the front bar, plenty of space for even a high jack like that  Might have to put it in at an angle to avoid the front bar though

the jack i have atm is like the $50 ones from supercheap.and one of the rear wheel arms has a bend in it.and it rocks.lol.so hence i feel unsafe with it.

this jack is gold

this is the jack link.it was a part of a group buy.it happened ages ago.it seems that this njack is even higher than the supercheap ones and is rated @ less tonne capacity also.

this is the actual pdf link to it.the nose is really low.like 63mm and raised it stands at 500mm.

Mate, honestly, you should have bought my jack that I had for sale. It was almost brand new.

What is this bs about jacks coming with different cups - that's bs.Why would you need different cups? a jack with a low cup can't jack up a car with lots of clearance but can jack up a low car?

When you buy a jack, don't think too much about the rating.

Generally, you have those small jacks - around $50. small weak, can't get high enough to put stands under, flimsy, feel like they will drop the car.

Big style - big strong jack, sturdy, can jack up to about 1/2 m high.

I wouldn't touch the supershit one - you're trusting your life on it. Check out standards australia - supershit are always recalling stuff. They've recalled about 3 of the past jacks that they've sold. I wonder why....

yeah, its all in hindsight now.its just when i had heard of the different cups that come with the HD jacks,i thought that that was a good idea.to have a cup size for most surface sizes.

a jack with a low cup can jack up a low car.hence the reason for looking for one with low clearence.

I think having a few cups is a good thing. They're handy if you're doing something like changing a gearbox. My old man's got a "cup" that's pretty much a flat piece of metal that is pretty handy at keeping a gearbox steady (assuming the bottom of the box is kinda flat).

That's a bit different. That's a transmission adapter for the trolley jack. They are a bloody great idea.

He's talking about just the cups though. e.g. why would you need a big cup, small cup etc.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
