hayden49
Hey all, Getting my clutch changed soon and at the same time getting the Engine Rear Main Seal, front main gear box seal and crank spigot bush changed. If i'm changing the front main engine seal does that also mean i will need to change engine oil at the same time? If so i will supply the mechanic doing it with the oil i wish to use. Just didn't know if the engine oil will need to be dropped to change this seal. FordyR31
You would have to drop the oil before taking the oil seals off otherwise it would get very messy. New seals, may aswell put new oil in unless u have changed it in the last week and not driven much. They r a main oil seal, keeps oil in the engine, no seal, no oil. Duncan
umm no actually you can change the oil seal without dropping the oil, it is well above the oil level in the sump. Do you have a problem with the gearbox front oil seal? I haven't seen one of them leak, so probably just leave it alone Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/180448-engine-rear-main-seal/#findComment-3282908 Share on other sites
hayden49
The gear box is getting dropped to install a new clutch + fly wheel so i thought why not just replace it all while the box is out. Those seals are 10 years old now. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/180448-engine-rear-main-seal/#findComment-3282980 Share on other sites
Duncan
yeah its a great idea to do the engine rear seal but the gearbxo front seal isn't worth the effort, it will be fine but do change the trust bearing while you are in there, they get really noisey Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/180448-engine-rear-main-seal/#findComment-3282984 Share on other sites
hayden49
Is thrust bearing different again to throw out bearing? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/180448-engine-rear-main-seal/#findComment-3284787 Share on other sites
