Hey guys just wanted to know do you rev match when down gearing???

If so do u do it coz its fun or just trying to extend the life of your clutches???

been told that if your not rev matching and down gear as your releasing the clutch slowly so its not a harsh gear change your actually riding the clutch.

True or a lie?

I rev match every now and then if im not feeling lazy but at times just shift normally.

Its the job of the synchros to "synchronize" the engine and road speed on gearshifts. So if you were blipping the throttle to match engine/road speed then you are saving wear on synchros.

Personally, its second nature to me. Not because I'm a track racer (never been on one) but because I am a truck driver and half my works fleet have non synchro boxes.

I do it. As other people have said it provides less strain on drivetrain and makes car more stable, plus sounds good.

I dont do it all the time, just when coming to quicker then normal stop or givin it a squirt through corners

your feet must be really small if you cant heel toe...ha. if you dont know already, its exactly what the term says, you place your toes close to the edge of the brake pedal instead of fully on and then blip with your heel. comes with practice.

i havent done track yet, first one will be next month, but i normaly do it when i enter a corner at high speeds during spritited driving. i find doing it in normal driving doesnt do it for me...lol

who here actually double clutch when heel toeing? ive been practicing that alot lately.

heel toeing is good fun, makes your driving smoother (good for the car and your passengers) and helps you take corners faster.

I use it everyday at least a couple of times, but I don't use the gears to slow down the car when coming to a set of lights for example. Gears are for going, not slowing down the car. I only use heel toeing when approaching a corner i intend to power through :)

Just press the brake pedal as you normally do (with your toes), clutch in, then twist your heel around and give the accelerator a blip, clutch out. Over time you'll get used to the sound of your engine and know instinctively when to release the clutch to make a smooth gear change without even looking at the rev meter.

The twisting of the foot feels awkward at first, but it's great fun once you've got it. I wouldn't recommend trying this on a busy street though, you'll probably brake too hard the first few times, etc.

No such thing as foot too small unless if your foot is like 5cm long or something. I've got size 13 feet, and they're too big. I can't 'heal toe' properly in the skyline. I more so press both pedals with different edges of my foot.

Smaller feet make it easier.

E.g. I can heal toe in a fangadore easily because its bigger

I find it's more of "heel - side-of-foot-ing" - I tend to roll my ankle so the side of my foot contacts the throttle pedal.

lol, and how does that work for ya? it would still lurch forward if you put it from D3 into D2 or whatever right? :laughing-smiley-014:

TBH, i've never tried it in an auto.

    • Great work! Give it a clean up with some Emery paper, and I'd run a thread die over the threads too to clean them up. It will make reinstall much easier, and also life easier for the next time it needs to come out.
    • I'm not a fan of high humidity, it's one reason I don't mind being further inland out Ipswich, except the last 3 odd years, the drought broke, and it won't stop raining, which is making the humidity nearly unbearable when the rains are in during summer! For me, my body hates the cold, once the cold sets into my body, I'm totally screwed. I end up with severe muscle spasm in my back/shoulder muscles, and it feels like someone is trying to tear the muscles out. I have no issues with it getting stupid hot, so long as the humidity goes away. So the last 3 years as above, have been woeful! Ha ha. However, June 1st, and I'm only just converting from shorts and a tee, to long pants and a t shirt. And that's mainly as it's a bit wet and miserable and I wanted to work on a car.
    • I much prefer colder weather to hot weather, and especially prefer cold to hot and humid, Goulburn does gets pretty warm in the hotter months, but, I've found the humidity there is not as painful as even Sydney, the humidity up north is to oppressing for this old rooster  In saying this, it does get rather "nippy" in Goulburn for early morning, late in the evening walks, but nothing that a layer or two, some thermal gloves, and a beanie doesn't fix to make it an enjoyable experience, which is much more bearable to me than the oppression of heat and humidity,  especially at night when your trying to sleep If I recall correctly, a "wise man" once said that the "Southern Tablelands" was gods country, and I will not argue that point with him for the fear of a "permaban" LOL In car part related news: My intake is currently in Botany getting processed for the last leg of its shipping journey to my door
