i know thats what i mean some thing has to be broken or loose im thinkin lol

just dump the oil. See if there's anything in there and go from there. If you haven't changed the oil since it came in you should do it anyway. Should be changing all the fluids.

yea just have about to have a look now n see if theres any metel in it and if there isnt ?

Put new oil in it and try again. Some times heads will tap when they got old oil runnin through em. My old evo was a clasic for it.

Bugger.

take it from me, I've been swinging spanners for over 20 years and had my own big end go in an RB and the location of the noise absolutely stumped me even using a stethoscope, but it was a big end.

Get a proper mechanic to look at it ASAP. Stop running it and revving it or you could have a rod snap and punch it through the block/stuff the head or both.

I was a mechanic for a long time and stepped up to mechanical engineering and the best advice I can give is call one of those mobile guys to have a quick look, pay your money for their rime and then start getting quotes on the job and you will be glad for the money spent. I still build my own race engines so I'm not at all out of touch. Look in the thread below in my sig if you want to see some of the stuff that goes bad in RBs.

At the risk of being way off track, you haven't stated whether this happens only whilst drivng or when parked and revving as well. The reason I say this is because just after picking up my Stagea after purchase, it developed a knocking sound just like you are describing and I did the stethescope thing nd all sorts of buggering around. Even had a mate take it for a drive with all the console out so I could probe the gearbox and transfer case etc because it was only at very certain revs we could hear it. It actually turned out to be the uni joint on the front driveshaft and I only got it just before it snapped "shudders".

not thrust bearing happens when i press clutch lol guess its big end or cracked piston should find out tonight :ninja: looks liek im gonna haveto geta JUN 2.7 stroker for it ;)

Is it just when you push the clutch in?? Might just be a rattly multiplate clutch, i now many a twin plate are infamous for making the car sound like its gonna fall apart when engaged.

Best of luck mate, i hope not to have to a 'forced' rebuild myself... at least not in the next year or 2.

Might be a little late for my comment, but anyways.

I had a similar problem in my CA18det in my bluebird.

I thought it was a big end, cause it sounded familiar, as I have had a CA18 with stuffed big end before..

Sold the car for cheap as it was, to find out a week later that it was the lightened flywheel coming loose.

Yes I still have my legs luckily. :D

So yeah might be another thing to check...

But good luck anyways.

maka.

    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler?
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
