hey guys did a search in the vic section and found threads about this for early 2006 nothing recent.

well i called up RE customs today and got quoted $800 to get the timing belt and water pump done. seems a little steep but what are you guys paying these days???

got quoted for a gates blue timing belts and all bearings and seals to be replaced and got told while the front end is out might as well to the water pump which is fine by me but $800 is a tad to high.

can anyone recomend me other places to try???

im in rowville SE suburbs and work in the city so any where close to the city or SE side is all good.

thanks

Ash

any decent mechanic can do this for you... but its isn't a quick job its a MAJOR service so I don't know if you will get any cheaper quotes... considering the parts will cost you almost $400 and it sounds like they are going to service your pulley bearings its not a bad deal

... small price to pay versus a timing belt or water pump failure... even a basic rebuild/freshen up will cost you over 4 grand

Yep would agree, a lot of parts used and labor also, sounds about spot on :P It's a major service, how many K's you at? Have you considered doing -

New Spark Plugs

New drive belts

New Oil Filter

New Fuel Filter

New Cam and crank seals - done with the idle bearings

Gearbox oil

Engine oil

Diff oil

Radiator and engine flush

Cleaning\replacing air filter

atm im on 103000ks

im only getting the timing belt and water pump done professional

the rest i can do my self which will be done in 2 weeks when the next service is due

New Spark Plugs- will do my self

New drive belts- what do u mean by drive belts??? what does this run

New Oil Filter-will do my self

New Fuel Filter- will do my self

New Cam and crank seals - done with the idle bearings- will be done with timing belt

Gearbox oil-will do my self

Engine oil- will do my self

Diff oil- will do my self

Radiator and engine flush- radiator already been flushed did it last week and engine will be done when oil is changed it 2 weeks

Cleaning\replacing air filter- done

You can do most yourself, but still doesn't change the fact everything has to come out to get to the Water Pump.

And then all the drive belts, idler/tension bearings etc.

All must be changed.

$800 is pretty reasonable for this in '07

im a mechanic an have done this to my car myself (no im not offering to do yours ...lol...)

I reckon $800 including a new water pump is a good price (your coolant flush was a bit of a waste when it'll all be drained out to change the water pump...but oh well), its about 4 hours labour for all of that so theres about $350-$400 there depending on labour rate itself. An parts would be about $400 as well id say

gates blue belts around $110-$130

tensioner & idler pulleys + new bolt around $130-$150

crank & cam seals around $30-$50

Water pump around $130-$150

few litres of coolant & bleeding up your cooling system around $50 - $70 (depends on what brand/type used)

so going on the higher side of my guesstamation.....theres $550 right there without the labour of changing it all, if they have a cheap labour rate of around the $350 for the 4 hours. Theres you $800 right there, which is a good price if you ask me, go with it.

hope thats of some help. Cheers

ash,

get RE to do the work. i know 800 is a bit more than u expected to pay but, if it saves u 4g for a rebuild, i think its worth it.

also ud hate for your car to go boom from over heating on the GOR cruise...lol

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
