Skyline newbie here again, i saw a r32 gts-4 for sale today and it got my attention. i understand that they are rb20 powered and all wheel drive. i would like to know how many parts they share with the GTR or are they literally a 4wd GTST?

Well, as a current owner of one, I thought I'd comment:

The R32 GTS-4 is a great machine, but it's a compromise.

It has the GTR suspension, AWD, and can be modded to use the same calipers (from what I understand anyway)

apart from that it's really a GTS-T.

I chose a GTS-4 due to the fact that I love AWD, but didn't want the upkeep of a GTR.

You can easily install a 2WD switch, but the added weight of the AWD system mean it will not be as fast on the quarter mile as a GTS-T, but it'll kill it in the twisties.

The GTR will naturally own the gts-4, but then again, it's double the price.

all the running gear is the same as the GTR as far as i know.

just the motor/gearbox is rb20 spec.

definitely not a 'mini godzilla' though.

Yeah I think the GTS-4's gearbox has shorter gears for better acceleration. I think GTR owners who are into drag racing often put the GTS-4 boxes in because they're better suited to quarter mile.

No, the DIFFS are shorter (4.375 vs GT-R's 4.111)

I call it a "baby Godzilla" - all that is missing is 600cc and a turbo! Many of the mechanicals are interchangeable with the GT-R.

But with a RB25DET ... now that's another story!

yeah this is what i was thinking , half the price of a gtr, a bit lighter, understated styling and lower geared. chuck in a boosted 25 and we're laughing

I guess 1450kg is a "bit" lighter than the GTR's 1460kg

I've had one.

unless it has something other than an RB20 in it, don't bother.

just not enough torque to do anything right.

I knew that before buying it and had planned to build an RB30/25 for it..

things changed, I sold it.

Stag engines aren't that easy to come by.

No you can't just use an RB25 out of any R33/34 skyline.

You can use an RB26 no worries.

but then after you've spent minimum $4K for engine and another $2K for the install and getting it running, you now have a car that is the same price as a GTR of the same vintage would have been and still NO GTR.

Are you from America? How can you call a Stagea a "small car" ;)

Anyway, you also mentioned looking for a Stagea engine..... unless I am mistaken they have an rb25det just like an r33 gts-t? What is the difference?

i think hes talking about the gts4 being heavy for a small car.

the stageas are 4wd drive i think? the rb25 in them would have the front drive shafts/sump that would suit the gts4s. an rb25 from an r33 would need a modified sump and bits to go with it. that what i *think* at least.

i own a gts4, also. good car. great in the wet. sure not the quickest, but like the dude up top said its a compromise. even then, its fine to drive daily and unless youre really looking to have a race every set of lights does it really matter being that much slower? i like my 4wd.

Stagea 4WD

Engine swap

Thought that was pretty simple to understand?

Either way i love my GTS4 and dont plan on doing an RB25 or 26 swap at all... Too in love with my RB20!

Should be making about 250-260rwkw soon and im really looking forward to seeing what the car can do then!

ill tell you right now what it'll do. it'll munch right through your gearbox if its standard.

How many R32 GTS4 gearboxes have you broken?

RIPZ in NZ have these cars in the 10's using rb30/25 and stock gearbox and diffs.

that requires ALOT more power than 260rwkw.

and alot more torque than 4 rb20's put together.

they are not like a GTST rb20 gearbox.

    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
