Lol wish my mummy and daddy were rich. No i got the skyline by working.....but now i have no work (got let go) so i got a new job but its crap pay and less hours. Oh and did i mention i'm a UNI student ;-) So i do have money to pay for food lol but not much left over for petrol. I could ride but its a 40 drive so would guess its close to 4 hours ride..... and busses suck. twice ive gone to catch the bus and it never came. Good old canberra buses.

So yea im in a pickle.

I need money to pay off uni, money to survive..... and sadly the skyline is last on the list. So yea its either imporve fuel economy or sell and buy a suzuki swift........which i really don't wanna do..

The only reason i asked is cos its due for a service soon and i wouldn't mind putting in like 200 or so bucks to give me more k's as in the long term it will pay itself off....

it won't happen mate.

Just face facts that things are already tight and you'll have to let the skyline go.

you can always get another in the future.

No use strugling along.

perhaps you could see if anyone wants to do a swap up to a skyline.

you can have their whatever cheaper car plus cash and when you get more hours/better job or whatever, you can get another skyline..

Not worth the struggle in my opinion.

especially if you have to have the RB putting along at 2000rpm to save fuel

what's the use in having such a car?

Completely agree. The thing is i only have to go like this for another 3 months as i have a great job ligned up to start then. of which i can afford petrol, and other goodies for the car ;-)

i will starve to keep ther car ;-) dont' worry about that, but just wanna cut the fuel down abit for the next 3 months.

Ok then I dont really understand what this thread is asking then...?

If you have some great, much better paying job lined up in three months time, why dont you just drive like a little girl until then?

In three months of fuel you almost definitely wont be able to make that big a saving upon the economy youre already getting, that it will pay itself off in that time period.

Eat less, dont go out, drive like a grandma.

In three months you can have a good feed, go and party and do a trackday or something

Sorry i guess it did get jumbled up in the process. Just didn't wanna spill my life out, just wanted a simple yes or no.....

I don't really have much money at all to last me the next three months. Driving is important to me as i need to get around town alot and get to uni etc. Alot of the driving I do is highway and abit of stop start.

Next part of the story: I have an accountant in the family and we have figured out how to make the money i have last.....at this rate i have enough money to spend on petrol that will last me 2 months of driving the way it is.

I got a grandma who gave me 100 bucks cos i am really cool. The way i see it, if i put that into somehow reducing the amount of petrol the car uses i may be able to drive it longerI don't care about the exact fuel consumption my car has, just wanted to know if there were some cheap thing i can do to reduce the fuel ussage over the next 2 months. I need to be on time with uni and canberra buses don't cut it. There are no trains or anything here. I have mates in the same classes but they live right next to uni. 3 months is a long time. And i may need to use the car abit more which means ill run outta money sooner.

If there is nothing i can do then just say, but if there is let me know pls.

Thanks for the fast replies again.

just tough it out for the 3 months then. if you have such a great job lined up with a good pay rate, im sure the parents will chip in for you until your next job. then you can pay them back. just like a loan but no interest :pwned:

and lol GTST at us posting same post at end of pg1 - gw

Must remembr to F5 before posting.. :pwned:

anyway, if you can eat noodles for 3 months, sit at home inthe dark, don't use the phone or intraweb, then do that.

My food is important to me and I'd sell the f*king thing.. but your choice.

edit - there is nothing you can do to reduce fuel consumption with the $100 your nan gave you for being cool.

Already owe the parents abit of money so don't wanna up it.... Yes i am very cool according to my nan....

its all good. Thanks guys for the help neway. I think i'll try the noodle thing. Was hoping i could put a fueleconomizerthingiemabob in but seems thats not the case ;-)

When u buy some noodles, think of me guys!

assuming you guys have the same noodles we have you can buy either:

--> cheap noodles at $1 for a 5-pack = 500 packets of noodles

--> expensive noodles at (Indomie Mi Goreng) for $2.31 for a 5-pack = 215 packets of noodles

hint: some bakeries also give away food at the end of the day

GTST: Haha this life of crime seems interesting, does it come with super or insurance?

ZENNON: You seem to be a master of the noodles........The idea makes me feel like a bum though. Worrying about spending a dollar or two lol

Adrain: Cheers mate, I might have to get back to you depending on how I go. Still got one thing to do which might get me 5 days of data entry crap.

Just annoying cos i had it all planned out, putting heaps of money paying off loans and stuff then wham get called into the meeting, oh yea by the way...we don't really need you any more sorry. Oh by the way, it was a freaking monday too!!! So yea completely unexpected, and of course its not like i was saving , i was simply paying off stuff, so i litterally have next to nothing. Feel like a bum lol.

My old VS 5ltr with its ecu, cam and a 5speed used to return ~17l/100km's cruising around fairly sedately.

Jumping in to a skyline that originally returned 10.5l/100km's, then crept up to close to 11L/100km's and now since this last larger turbo up to 12l/100kms (given i did drive it fairly hard) the skylines SIP the fuel; not drink it. :(

The old V8 skulled fuel and made ~70rwkw less than what the Skyline does. :S

    • I'll just leave this with, holy shit, those cars at work are awesome, and this will look wicked!
    • Could you modify this duct so instead it pushes the extra air through the radiator too and not down and out? For temps, I know it's not the greatest idea, but as a bit of a last resort, you could use a very intermittent misting spray onto the front of the coolers/rad. You don't want to be soaking them such that water is dripping off, but a small most on/off so that the water evaporates. That point of it constantly evaporating, rather than being soaked in water, will pull a LOT of heat out of the cooler. I'm literally thinking just the little mist sprayers for a garden from Bunnings. Being in a low humidity climate it will help even more! The other trick if you want to be ghetto is some shade cloth hung in the opening, and keep it wet. Pretty much now it's acting like an evap cooler on a house, but cooling the air you need to use to cool the radiator...   On a topic to think about too though, when air enters through the bumper, is it all nicely ducted from the edges of that opening back at a nice angle, or is it like most cars, and the edge of the opening just stops, and suddenly it's wayyy wider behind that? If it does the later, get it shrouded out at nice angles. When that opening changes too rapidly, it can actually cause a high pressure zone between the front bar and radiator, and limit air flow into that area, which means less air for cooling, as it effectively stalls the air, AND adds to drag...
    • Do you have any before and after photos? That's $200 just for the hydro blasting?
    • It doesn't look like there's a lot of options out there these days, and what's out there is performance oriented aftermarket stuff (with the GTR markup) I wonder if there are other cars with similar springs, after all its just a matter of length, diameter and stiffness. Alternatively, I did see coil spacers. Probably not the best option, but could be serviceable too.
