Hey guys, the turbo on my 32 is just about gone and i'm looking at replacing it.

Currently have an rb25 turbo, however i'm thinking about replacing it with something brand new...

I'm not looking for much of an increase in power so i was wondering what's a cheap (quality) bolt on for the rb20?

p.s. I've looked in the 'rb20 turbo upgrade' section, but that doesnt answer my question...

Rb25 turbo is a very good upgrade if your not chasing too much power and just want a cheaper alternative.

It will get you to about 180rwkw with supporting mods, but people have been known to make more power.

You really wont find anything more cheaper, and as good quality as an RB25 turbo.

If you want something bigger, you can go to a RB25 high flow, which would be grand new obviously. Depending on the size of the high flow that will be able to get you into the 200rwkw+ bracket, but again with supporting mods.

Supporting mods would include;

Fuel pump - BOSCH 040/WALBRO/GTR

Exhaust - 3" turbo back

Intercooler - Front mount (eg: JUSTJAP kit)

Tune - Either stand alone ECU (wolf, microtech, power fc), piggy back (e-manage, or an SAFC II (fuel computer) or REMAP (most popular, CHIPS & RETUNE'S the standard ECU)

Injectors - (Over 200-220rwkw) GTR injectors

Have all the above, plus a little more. Car has been dyno'd at 192rwkw. Just wanted to go something new so that i know it will last... CRD, which of the garret's are a bolt on for the rb20?

Awesome. Also wanting to know the same, which ones bolt on to RB20 as all the turbos say they are T25 flange, when RB's are T3?..

GT2860RS is a good upgrade for RB20 though! Very responsive turbo's.

Sell me your RB25 turbo! :(

Why doesn't the rb20 thread answer your question? you can see how much power you people are getting and then see what turbos they use...and then you can do some price searching...i can tell you off hand though...that the common upgrades besides the 33 and 34 stockies are...hks 2530, hks 2535, gcg highflows, slide highflows, kkr430s, kkr480s...and a few other chinese brand turbos...all these will come with a T3 flange and will bolt straight(dump pipes might not)...obviously they will make different power and have different response but it should give you a good starting point...

    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
    • thanks GTSboy. My confusion at the moment is i am trying to locate the ignition, ECU battery power and the ECU negative The closest thing i can find is the for the S15 on Page 8 of the Wiring Specialties web page https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9F33_M_GgENQnZ6STMxVmVNd1E/view?resourcekey=0-eZ4nNRwRoqa1qvKlWWHm8A I cannot find the same diagram for the R33 RB25DET Series 2 dash plug pin out.... Do you know what the Pins? or know where i can find the same pinout diagram for the RB dash plug? Thanks for the advice on the box... i like a 6 speed so might be on the lookout or the box now.. a topic of discussion for another post...
    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
