3 Genuine Gibson Motorsport Hr31 Skylines At Sandown Raceway

Recommended Posts

3 Gibson Motorsport HR31s will be racing at Sandown Raceway November 9/10/11.

These cars are the real deal;

Jim Richards 1990 ATCC winning car in full Nissan warpaint (chassis #5)

Alf and Tim Grant's 'Sizzler' car (Chassis #3,Ex Mark Skaife)

Chassis #1 in original Nissan colours (Ex George Fury, Glenn Seton, Mark Skaife)

All 3 cars are as raced.

If you haven't heard the howl of a full race RB20, now is the time to educate yourselves!

And say hello to the charming and glamorous pit crew (1 of which is me)

Usually 2 practice sessions on the friday, qualifying and race 1 on Saturday,

And race 2&3 on Sunday.

As for actual times, who knows.

Depends on whether we are the feature race or not.

Either early morning (9am) and early arvo (12;30-1;30)

Or late (10:30/11 and 3-4)

this is the historics yes? They regularly run these in the historics along with a few other group A cars from that period. The Gibson R32 is also there but doesn't get raced, I have seen it being driven around though. You can usually go right up to it and poke the engine bay etc :).

Yeh, this is the weekend of the Sydney trip. This really sucks. The owner of the Vic GTS-R has finished his other liitle project which has been a big demand on his time. I suspect he will be racing his new toy rather then the R31...but will ask him next Wednesday when i see him

Bad- Chris may not be able to make it to Sandown

Good- Terry will be coming to Sandown

Bad- he won't be in the HR31

Good- he will be in the #1 Winfield GT-R

Bad- he won't be racing it

Good- Rod will be racing his HR31

Good- The GT-R will be on display.

Would you have any idea closer to the date when these cars might be out on the track?

Seems only 1 X R31 is making the journey...but thats cool. There is still the Grp A Jag XJS, Tweedie in his Sierra and Vic's own Gavin Strongman making the first track return of the R32 GTR to the track!. There is the JPS M3 in there and John Bowes old Turbo Volvo 240...along with Commodores, Mustangs and the Group C crowd of Toranas :D

Plus, a friend is debuting his Group NC car this weekend, so should be big!

But, i fear unless the Nissan boys have a real go that the Mike Roddys' Jag is going to eat the field alive :) My poor RB20 :D

    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
    • Shock tower brace is in +5Kw....LOL
