yea 20 would be the quickest, most simplist and cheapest answer yet when i had a cracked head i had the motor rebuilt. then i could do what i wanted while the motor was open and knew that the motor wasnt gonna die from old age

  • 3 weeks later...

i've had a quote for $3k including a guaranteed low k's motor in very good condition and all labour with i think a 3 month warranty on everything.

i know this is in the upper limit of getting an rb20 replaced, but i just need an opinion of whether this is just too much to spend on it?

the breakdown was something like this:

$1500 for guaranteed later year motor with low k's and full warranty

$1500 labour + peripherals

thanks!

is that with new timing belt and water pump etc?

I'd be looking at a basic rebuild...

I have found www.midnightmods.com.au to be very reasonably priced for rebuild packages, and i have had a lot of work carried out at nissco in bayswater and had money left for fuel.

3k for a RB20 swap... no sale.

An RB20 for $1500 is a rort in itself even with warranty.

I would be paying no more than $800

And $1500 for motor in/out is also a bit rich unless things are all being replaced (basically a 100k service)

oil pump

water pump

all belts/tensioners etc.

the rebuild pretty much comes with a major service too. all fluids, pumps, belts, etc.

i actually don't mind paying the $1500 for the swap inc major service. was a bit surprised with the cost of the engine tho.

i'm really having trouble finding a good, reliable workshop in melbourne to bring my car to. i don't have time to go around sourcing an engine due to work commitments, so i really need somewhere i can drive in and drive out and not have to worry about my engine dying for a while.

thinking of contacting Chasers and RE Customs. any ideas on how these guys have been in the past?

180sx_luva, it looks like nissco does more datto and sr20 work?

RE are doing good work at the moment with many SAU-Vic club members happy with results by all accounts.

So i reckon a safe bet for sure mate. :P

$1500 with new belts/pulleys/water pump etc is a reasonable price.

And being its all off the car it doesnt take that long, matter of an hour really on a stand.

You might want to think about replacing some of the hoses underneath the intake manifold, as when they split they are a pain in the ass to fix and cost $$$ for a shitty hose fix. While motor is out, its a few seconds :ninja:

they do everything, VH45 into an r31, 2.3L injected autronic'd stanza...

My motor was built there, my cars are maintained and modified there, they have worked on a few r32's that i have seen, they do evo's, all race/rally shit.

Randy has over 30years experience. Tell him Ryan sent you, and you will understand why i go there. I find that they go that extra mile with their service.

Thanks Ryan. I work in Bayswater so i'll drop in on Monday to have a chat and look around!

Hahah its true but, Roy gets mad results lol

I can see Roy lurking around in this therad, your about to get a good answer to why RB20 is the shit! :)

How hard is it to put RB25 in? I got wolf and that so ECU side wouldn't be that hard, just the loom/wiring is the most difficult.

Djemz I think is his forum name, he has an RB25 in his R32. Runs a HKS2535 and E-MANAGE, makes a reliable 240rwkw..

I've talked to him and other people who have been in the car.. Staight out machine.

fkn oath

best thing since sliced bread = )

go rb25 + box and trust me u will never look back

i was selling my car but now i decided to keep it, i was asking 13k (which every1 who knows the car thought was too cheap) n every1 who didnt was being a tight ass, so f**k em, ima keep my car because only i need to know how much that car means to me.

/end rant

point being

rb25 + r32 ftw

ill take u for a spin if ya want

DJ Ems, have you just searched your name in the search bar and replied to every thread that mentioned your name? Even though they are from 3months old to almost a year?

well i often get pms from people who heard about my conversion and asking how i did it n how much ect

so i searched to see whos been asking :P

helping ppl out, is that a crime?

i realise youve probably already made your decision, but i jus went through all this last week...

roy is pretty spot on with what he was saying early on with price etc. All up it cost me a litte over 2800 with a brand new heavy duty clutch, pumps, heater hoses and wat not replaced and aircon fixed.

Was originally quoted $900 for the motor (supposedly 75000kms and 3month/5000kms warranty) and around $750 for labour. any additional parts are obviously more.

best part was i poped the engine last sunday and had it back the following friday!!

hope this helps someone.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
