+ 1 for e-manage ultimate..The fact that it can be updated as new software comes out won it for me. and it doesnt hurt that its a lil cheaper than the pfc. Getting one installed in about two weeks should be good.

OK OK you guys sure like to give a 'variety' of opinions...

So it's a PFC/EMU/Re-map/any of the other bloody numerous piggyback systems that i can choose?

Sounds like most of u recommend the Emanage Ultimate. Well i'm happy to go for whatever is best for decent street power and the occassional circuit day. Not interested in drags btw.

So for around $1500 i can have an EMU installed and tuned, with the speed limit restriction removed (car can then do 240km/h i'm told), two map settings (i.e. high/low boost) and it can be upgraded with new software as it comes out, meaning it will be a good long term investment.

The PFC sounds too dear and too old now, and doing a stock ECU remap sounds OK, but i wanna give it some decent mods (incl. turbo upgrade) and up the power to app. 220rwkw, with some basic adjustability. I'm told a remap is limited in some ways.

Is this sounding OK, or am i complete d!ck?

You are in no way a complete dick.... Whoever told you remaps were limited is however!

With a re-map you havre the same flexability as a PFC, with the benefits of being a factory ECU, retaining full consult interface & diagnostics, active knock sensor feed back, and it doesn't require any changes to wiring / adaptor looms / sensor manipulation etc etc...

The factory ECU can easily produce the power you are after, whilst still retaining the the reliability and safety of a Nissan engineered product!

my 2c

Sam.

BTW: Total Outlay would be around $1300 including ECU modifcations, and all dyno time. Further retuning does not involve any 'remap fees' or bs like that, just simple dyno time, and is not password protected, or encrypted, so ANYONE with basic remapping skills can retune your car...

Thanks Sam

A remap was something i was unsure about...one thing i'm not sure about with it is do i have different 'modes' or settings that i can choose, like with a hand controller on a PFC???

That's what i'm after, i don't want ALL the engines power available when i'm driving to the shops, if you get me. I want FLEXIBILITY, cause a stockish 33 isn't of course. Is the remap option flexible?

Thanks mate

Oh yep fair enough.

Plug and play units seemed to still cost around the $500 mark for initial tune and installation (plugging it in..).

As far as I know they don't come programmed with a base map hey, so the tuner has to practically start from scratch?

Thanks for the info, I will do some research.

I'd say things like the ultimate wouldn't need a base map like other ecu's (power fc etc) cos it is still a piggy back ecu, so the stock ecu which stays in the car would act as its 'base map'. I personally am looking into an autronic smc, which are supposed to be very good ecu's.

Thanks Sam :D

I just don't get this logic.

having 2 maps seems like a "keeping up with the jones' " crap.

Why does the tune need to be different or the boost setting be different when you are on the track or going to westfields?

get it tuned to the best, safest limit, then leave it.

if you are going to the shops, make a quick adjustment to signal that goes from brain to right foot and your set.

if you have it tuned with stock turbo and have 200rwkw on 12psi of boost... that is perfect.

so if you are tooting around the streets or shops, just don't fang the f*k out of it as if you were coming on to the straight of a race track.

If Sam has got the R33 remaps just as good as his R32 ones, and he is not charging anything except tuning time for future updates (I believe the first r33 rechips used to be write once, test, throw away, write another, test etc..), then it is definitely a good comparison to the after market stuff.

Just a question for Sam I guess.

is the factory ecu programable to use Z32 or Q45 AFM?

I'd say they would be but a confirmation is good.

and do you have any information on line somewhere about r33 ecu remaps?

didn't think they had the "board" to add chips to.

cheers.

Is the Autronic a piggyback unit too?

they are electronic..

they keep fine.

I think I've only heard of one PFC frying a board and that was due to "someone" playing with things..

*cough* CUBES *cough*

second hand would be fine.

I'd personally be looking at the remap of the factory ecu.

I wonder what tuning range they have..

is it 16x16 like the PFC?

anyone?

Sam?

The only different mode's you may need are different boost levels, most of my clients run the turbo tech single stage boost control which has only the one boost, and if less boost (power) is needed they simply use less throttle :D

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
