Removing Bung (welsh Plug) From Rb25 Oil Filter Bracket

As I slowly put my motor back together ive been wondering where to put the sensor for my oil temp guage and I noticed on the oil filter bracket a place where you could possibly put another sensor. however it has a bung in it and im not sure how to remove it. I have a spare one here I can hack into, but i thought maybe someone else has done this already. Looking from the inside there is a gallery leading up to this bung, so anything is possible.

I am hoping that if i can remove it it will either have:

1. nothing behind it and I can tap a thread into it

or

2. nothing behind it and already has a thread tapped

couldn't take any pics as I didn't have a camera with me when I discovered this so i did a screen shot from Nissan FAST for reference.

Note the bung is part code 00933-1141A

a sandwich plate would probably be easier.

I would use a sandwich plate, however because of my oil cooler and remote filter setup, leaves bugger all room and probably wouldn't clear the engine mount then.

the plate that goes onto the block for the relocator kit usually have a thread to fit temp and pressure sensors. it might be easier for you to replace that part if yours doesnt have one, or get one tapped into it if you're keen to drill into it.

You can remove the bung/plug by drilling it out slowly, it is not very thick. The hole it covers does not have a thread in it.

I have just done the same as you want to. The oil temp sender had was to small for the for the hole so i took it to a local welder who filled the hole with weld and i just drilled and tapped it to the correct size after.

The sender i had was only fractionaly smaller than the orignal hole and the adapter for the sensor was quite large.

I was concerned about drilling the hole out large enough to fit the adapter as i thought that there might not be enought material around the hole to be strong enough.

PS i was using Stewart Warner gauges and senders.

      I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

      My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.

      So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
