Hey guys,

Well, I just pulled apart my intake bits around the turbo to fit my super cool silicone inlet pipe, and whilst doing this I have noticed that the compressor housing can be rotated with very little effort on the bearing cartridge.

This is the first time I've had any of this area apart since the turbo has been installed, and I've been having a little trouble holding boost up the top, according to my dyno chrat.

A) Is there a way to tighen the bugger up without removing the turbo? (doesn't look like there is)

B) Has this happened to anyone else, the housing working loose that is?

C) you do you think this might be the reason it's not holding boost? (only dropping off and a little bit wavy, but this might also me from back pressure in the exhaust turbine....

Thoughts?

BASS OUT

The housing is bolted on by a series of bolts isnt it Pete?

It would just be a matter of tighting all of them up.

Unless the hi-flows/stockers are different from say a GT frame turbo, as i know mine was just 6 bolts to hold the comp housing on.

The first thing to work out is if the comp housing is turning on its backplate or if the housing and backplate are rotating on the front of the bearing housing . It would help to know what kind of turbo it is too because for example some Garrett GT BB turbos fix the backplate to the bearing housing with a large circlip . Others like T3 or T4 based turbos have the backplate bolted to the front of the turbos bearing housing .

Cheers A .

Yeah, it's spinning on the 6 bolts that hold the housing section on.

I tried to get in there but there's too much crap around it.

I'm thinking this is going to be a 'turbo out' excursion? :)

    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
    • Not sure the US can import anything other than the C34 Stagea's, but if you can and you need to to tow, DO NOT under any circumstances get an M35 Stagea. If it is just as a family car and your country/state allows it, absolutely and definitely get an M35 (3.5L if possible as it is effectively a 350Z) over a C34.
