So how slow does 110 on the freeway feel after 6 days of Targa!

Sorry not to have caught up with everyone- I had forgotten how busy things get down there. Still good to see and chat to a few of you guys though.

Special thanks to Ben & Tim for pointing us in the right direction of the fuel related fuses when we were stuck inside time control at Bastyn Dam. Bloody r32 fuel pumps!

Anyways, I stupidly flew back into work on Monday morning after a night at the Just Jap bar :)

Needless to say I’m still suffering but it was definitely worth it.

I have to say that 08 was seriously the best organised event I’ve ever attended- hats off to Mark, Stuart and the team for a brilliant effort- not a thing could be faulted.

Peter L knows how to steer a Skyline, and Just Jap certainly know how to prepare one- I’ve sat in a few 32s over the years and the DK car is the best by far (we passed 2 cars on Arrowsmith!)

Already can’t wait until next year!

Thanks Duncan for including us in your results summary.

We had overheating issues early in the event (fan control box) which meant starting stages in limp mode. Lost inter hose in prologue, but was seeded on last years time. Then the lower hose burnt through on ex pipe (day 3) - half a day on .9bar boost thanks to racetape and zip ties! Rest of the time I was just slow!

We now can give qualified comparison with regard to Tyres. We ran Yoko "M"(from the US) and I reckon they are >1sec/k slower than the D03 M. On the track they may be closer, but what they do to your confidence is at least .75sec/k.

Ben M (we have that as Brake! R4>2) - never mind M8, you guys in comfortable shoes were going well. You may need to get a new cat too, yours appears to be RS :)

Big W - Respect, and what I said post race summed it up... you drove like a champion. Everyone in the top 30-40 are trying, and know just how hard it is to be near the top ten. Most other years that performance may well have seen you in the top half dozen. In 2003 we finished 23:58 behind the leader in 24th. This year a simalar performance would have put us in 49th (SH in 803 was 25th in 03)... this year we were 12:19 back in 19th.

FYI one particular Evo driver still has a soft spot for the N1 R34. SO next time he wins he may be in one... (maybe get Dean to call HLCA and sell the promotional advantage of the said model)

Adam Caplan was driving it, he owns it (he's really keen to sell it), he's a very good peddler and has competed for ages in a Giacattollo with big hp.

I would imagine he wasn't keen to mark the car in any way, whether that be through a fence or even a stone chip.

I can't say I blame him for not giving it a flogging! I did see it get quite a few big squirts though :P

I was at the end of Ross Arden waiting for the Skeltas to exit the stage and I must say I could not believe that people had to drive their cars over 5kms of dirt rd in a TARMAC rally. Especially within 200m of Time Control, with hot tyres all ready to collect stones and dust and fling it all up the underside and side of the car. You just dont expect to see The Coad's Monaro or any of the late model Porsches (like the Kermit green 997 GT3 RS) driving on an unsealed rd.

Yeah agreed. The question was asked of competitors prior to ok'ing that transport, but we were told in was in superb condition with Very small gravel particles.

What I wasn't aware of was how close it was to the time control, as I'm sure many others weren't either! I had an unGodly wheel balance issue all the way to Longford, where thankfully we had the chance to skid her up and clear all the debri.

Didn't worry us so much in the "tough-as-nails" GTR, but I bet it worried plenty of others!

Ah yes, THAT morning...The morning of waiting all morning for 4 mins of Comp, and I wasn't even in a car! On the way back from George Town, the Orange Skelta of Nick Faure threw 6th gear so we spent 7 hrs out the front of the Silverdome replacing the GBox. (Just for safetys sake, as we werent too sure where the bits of 6th gear went to.) :)

Hopefully we'll be able to catch up at another event, looks like Jenna has a ride with Ray for the rest of the year. :P

Unfortunatly i wasn't able to come watch any stages this year as i was sick. But i will be mixing it up in the rookie rally next year :-D

Oh, but i did chat to Savman at the lunch stop in burnie.

Yeah the box was a baptism of fire on the first night I tell ya! Luckily one of the Evo guys was doing a clutch the same night and we managed to get a lend of his engine crane, making it sooooo much easier. Undid the first bolts at 5:00PM and was in bed around 12:30AM. F*** it was cold out there after the sun went down.

We're not 100% sure Ray will be making the trip West this year.

Never pass up an opportunity in a Spec C :P

Yeah, really looking forward to it. any tips? it will most likely be in the GTS-t, unless a miricle happens and the STI is here are prepped in time.

Mozza put some excellent tips on the Targa forum, digest that mate, it's all gold!

I reckon the GST-t would be well cool on day 1 and 2 roads, lotsa fun :P

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
