i wouldnt trust a magazine much until the actual thing hit the streets or actually went to a magazine like i dunno... motor magazine? wheels? but on an international level??? whats a really really big world wide mag??

otherwise, theyre just rumour mags... it is meant to weigh in the 1700kgs+ thou :thumbsup:

It was misspelt... ever spelt a Japanese persons name wrong? That's how easy it is. Their editors are dealing with a foreign language and a mistake got through, don't shoot down their credibility over a single misspelt word.

Speaking of credibility, have a look at all those links I posted (and m3gtr quoted) and then compare that info to the OFFICIAL presales documentation released just last week. There you'll see just how credible these so-called 'rumour mags' are... they're bang on the money 80 - 90% of the time. They scooped the engine code/weight/dimensions/engine capacity/transmissions two months or more in advance! Only now some 'credible' non-Japanese mags are catching on... two months after the fact.

The Japanese mags are credible, it's just short sighted homebodies who don't get out much and the badwagon jumpers that think they aren't.

The GT-R will weigh 1700kg+.

The Americans aren't the only race that have the "Not Made Here" attitude.

Wheels and Motor are regularly wrong on their "scoops", as well, or get it from the same web sites they do. I remember when they "featured" a 450Z clubsport racer scoop, a vehicle that no-one's heard a peep about since it hit the Internet and then the Aussie car mags about a month after.

Allot of cars are changing into auto, straight line might be faster, but still recon that a manual would be better in a track with lots of corners...........this is coming from an auto driver :-).

When you say "auto", do you mean gear selection or clutch actuation? I'd agree if its the former and disagree if its the latter,

I can't think of any auto gear selecting race cars (pretty sure even most drag cars still have to select gears manually), and there's a reason why F1 cars only use a clutch pedal off the line.

fifth gear did a track test of the Audi TT S-Tronic (sequential manual using 2 clutches instead of 1) back to back with a manual with exact same specs, and it turned out faster as the machine can change gears quicker than a human.

oldschool auto boxes are probably shite for corners and tracks etc, but the new sequentials are pretty good, if not better than manuals

The original BMW SMG changed gears at 80ms in its fastest setting, which is faster than any human could do it in.

Too bad the thing sucked around town because it was too lurchy, and electronics gremlins would occasionally attack the thing and cause it to drop in to failsafe mode when pushed hard. So the thing was really good everywhere except on the street or in race conditions.....

The first Ferrari "F1 gearbox" (I think it debuted in the 355?) did it in 250ms, which isn't that slow either. Except, around town, I think it had an appetite for clutches.

I'd love a car with that DSG gearbox. Such an awesome concept, and from what I've heard from owners it works in practice. Always being on the power also means zero lag, as the engine never loses load and falls off boost.

I just find it funny that so many people who discredited the Japanese mags for being 'rumour peddlers' for so long are still doing it... despite evidence (and a lot of it) to the contrary.

Just because the Japanese mags have a habit of making their own CG images (which - as far as the new GT-R is concerned - were 100% on the money a month or more beforehand) to go along with their articles, doesn't mean the info is made up too. They go out of their way to get real scoops first before anyone.... they're their own cars ffs. But you wouldn't know that if you can't understand Japanese now would you?

adam, calm down mate... you're only making yourself sound less credible with outbursts like that. scathing's actually commenting on the 450Z which Autocar boldly proclaimed, and made its way through edmunds, and other auto-news feeds and finally into aussie mags.

their source was a japanese publication too from what I read at the time.

I'd take a punt and say that the reportings of japanese scoop magazines are sensationalist too just like aussie or US based tabloids. that's what sells magazines, accurate or not... although being a home grown model the japanese mags have a higher accuracy rate than foreign publications.

As for the new GTR i can't seeing many people buying if i comes here and is sold for over 100k, i mean its still only a nissan, dont get me wrong i looove skylines, but that price even for the performance etc, is still steep.

maybe in a few years they will drop the price..

the 3.8dett is going to be one nice engine.

f1 shifting is cool and all, but u can't randomly stab the clutch on the freeway and fry the rears. fun = gone.

I'd agree with you that the local rags are a bit useless when it comes to info. I remember when I bought my 350Z, the Drive section of a "respected" national newspaper chain printed that Nissan was dropping the price of the Z by $6K. It sounded a bit too good to be true, especially since the car had only hit the market and it was selling like hotcakes (there was a 3 month wait for them) but hey, its a respected newspaper.

Rolled up to a Nissan dealer to go haggle over their price, they told me what the plausibility of them discounting was when 3/4 of the dealers couldn't even retain a Z for long enough to use as a demonstrator, and that they were considering suing Fairfax for publishing that dross.

If its not about a Ford or Holden, or a European manufacturer drip-feeding spin for free publicity to markets that overprice their cars compared to their domestic sales (and that you could have gotten faster off the Internet), the guys down here don't have a clue.

To Dave at NAGTROC (if you're lurking) and all the others, from myself at least I'd like to withdraw any comments I made about the GT-R not being an 'R35' 4-odd years ago! At the time it didn't make sense to call it that, I'm sure you understand why but I always had it in the back of my head that Nissan could do the 'unthinkable' and call it an R35. Well, I've heard it from the horses mouth now, the new GT-R is: CBA-R35.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
