Hi there, I am having a problem with leaving my headlights on and getting a flat battery (yeah lame I know). Does anyone know how I can manipulate my lights to work only when the ignition 12v is on? It would be pretty sweet to get out of car with lights on at night and then let them switch off with turbo timer anyway. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

use a relay to drop the light switch circuit out. most of it is available off the column.

I think you're mistaking me for someone who is competent. "drop the light switch circuit out" means nothing to me... could you explain in terms of "connect this colour wire to this colour wire"? :P

cheers, Daniel

you can buy relay thing for the lights from supercheap for about $25. i picked one up last week just havent installed it yet. itll turn the lights off when ignition is turned off and it has a light sensor too so itll automatically turn the lights on when it gets dark. i probably wont get it hooked up for a couple of weeks coz im lazy but doesnt look too hard. theres not a lot of wiring involved.

I'll have to crawl around the column of a 33 to tell you the exact colours.

you will need a 5 pin relay labelled : 86,85,87,87a,30.

wired in this fashion:

85- gnd

86 +12 IGN (blk/red on column)

30 - light circuit in (red/blue)

87a - light circuit out.

that will switch them off when you turn the key off.

doesnt it make that annoying beeping sound until you turn the lights off?

Not if you have a turbo timer!

I need to do this mod too, nearly had a flat battery yesterday.

I presume Chris' wiring will also cut power to the parkers' circuit?

where is the "light circuit in" cable? I took the red/blue one off the light stalk harness but it only cut power to one of the headlights and the dash lights were still on. i need to cut power to the full circuit, if anything is left on the battery will die. Do you have a diagram of the circuit? I cut the wire and i don't want to cut anymore unless i am sure.

that supercheap relay is crap. fairly easy to install but sensitivity is rubbish wont turn the lights on automatically until its pretty much pitch black but then when i go into a multi level carpark in the day theyll turn on. ripped it out again already.
