Hi All,

Long story short, i hit a kangaroo a while back and after much fu*king around with the insurance company (Justcars) i got paid out and am now ready for the car to be repaired. BTW i pushed in the radiator support to the cam cover, killed the bonnet, lights, radiator, fan, shroud, etc..

Anyway, i was reading on here and discovered i need a roadworthy and then a V.I.V once the car has been repaired.. but i have received my rego renewal in the mail?? Should i just pay and renew the rego and play dumb or should i call Vicraods and sort this out???

Cheers,

As above.

Now they have paid you out, they are likely to notify whomever it is that the car has been written off etc etc.

Last thing you want is to get it fixed, then come bite you in the ass 3-4 months later if VicRoads check their system or whatever.

Also with a lot of Imports being re-called for inspection due to dodgy compliance at the moment, its another thing you probably dont need to risk

your renewal is automatically issued. you'll find that if your car has a VIV your renewal will be rejected (if you pay it they'll send you a cheque back).

The way I understand it is that unless it's a stat write off the insurance company do not inform the authorities of the accident. The whole idea of a repairable write off or "total loss" is that the cost to repair the car is more than about %75 of the original value of the car. All the insurance company is doing is choosing the most economical way of dealing with you. I assume that in order to be payed out they have assessed your car and quoted the original value, then probably payed you that figure minus the "buy back" value so that the car never leaves your place.

This happened to my brother last month and he ended up getting payed out for his "total loss" and even though the car was stuffed, he was completely entitled to just have it repaired and keep it registered without any inspections.

The idea of a total loss though suggests that if it is more economical for the insurance company to just buy the car off you then it's probably not worth fixing for you unless you have contacts that can do repairs significantly cheaper.

when someone hit my old van and wrote off the incurance company paid me out and then i had to go to Vicroads and tell them and show them proof that is was gone then they sent a cheque back for the amount they owed me..so pay it and fix it in the mean time.

15 year old vehicles are exempt from VIV....if your vehicle is less then 15 years and has been payed out it will go on the data base one the assessor has submitted a WOVR (write off vehicle report)....It will be in the database for ever, even once the vehicle has been repaired...its on the rego for good that it has been fixed and put back on the road...if your vehicle is 14 years and 11mnths...you can wait and once it become 15 years old a VIV is no longer required...

    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
