god sum ppl really are stupid!!!!

when clutch is out nor the throwout bearing or the spigot bush/bearing is in use and they are doin the same speed as the engine. therefore the only bearing that is spinning that would be most likely to hear would be the input shaft bearing.... when clutch is pushed in if the noise was a spigot or throwout this is the tim u would be hearing it. due to the fact of the clutch has released drive between the input shaft and crankshaft. think about it ppl go through things in ur mind first b4 u start telling ppl wat u think the problem might be.

lol gold was waiting for someone to bring that up!

its not the bearings thats a load of shiet, its Common with nissans and its due to the cut of the gears . as they wear they start to get niosey, it will be the input and counter shaft gears that are worn causing the "rolled" edges to flatten out and thats the noise, dont concern yourself with it, the gears/box is old

you can get rid of the noise by replacing the input/counter/everyother worn gear but its very costly and doesnt really do much towards strength

Have to dig up this old thread as I've got a strange noise coming from my car that started about a week ago, similar to what's been mentioned here which has some good points being made, but now I'm not sure if it would be clutch or gearbox after reading a couple of replies.

Basically I start the car & for a few seconds it sounds normal, and then I start to hear a whining noise from the front of the car. It will do it in neutral, even with the clutch in. Under driving it starts to get louder as the revs increase, but then goes away once the clutch goes in & comes back after releasing. The first couple of days I didn't mind it too much but today it was quite loud so I'm going to try & get it looked at asap just to see how bad it is.

As for the clutch, the release point is still normal, no slippage & apart from the noise now I haven't had any problem with this clutch, got it about 6 months ago I guess but cant really remember. It's always made the noise everyone mentions at idle that goes away when you put the clutch in (throwout bearing??), but this noise hasn't got anything to do with that & sounds like it's coming from a different part of the bay.

I'll just run that again with a few other details to get some feedback from someone who knows more about it than me :)

* Whining noise after start-up at idle, clutch in or out. Also my idle is sometimes steady but also drifts between about 900rpm-1200rpm or so (up & down), when it does this the noise gets a bit louder but when it drops right back down goes away for that split second....only noticed that a couple of times though

* Becomes louder when driving before eventually being drowned out by turbo/engine, can hear it usually at idle but sounds at it's worst taking off. It's probably made worse that my exhaust is really quiet lol

* I can hear it making the noise while driving, but when I put the clutch in it goes away.

* I haven't tried putting it in neutral while still rolling so I'm not sure if it would make the noise if I did this or not.

* Occasionally it randomly goes away briefly (like I mentioned with the idle too) but it's pretty much happening all the time now

Any ideas???

Cheers :D

Nathan

Also I should mention one feeling I think it might be could be something to do with near the front of the engine (the few belts & pulleys), as that's where the noise seems to come from when I open the bonnet. Only thing with that is once I open the bonnet it's harder to isolate that sound. But I'm not sure if it would be something like a squeaky pulley because I'd think the noise would be there all the time, not go away when the clutch goes in...

    • Thanks Mate, I did know you could do that but i know there is a pump out there that you can bolt on and it all lines up. I was told about it and then forgot the model, I figure if i am pulling it apart i will just put a new one on
    • You can also remove the veins from the HICAS portion of your existing pump.
    • Trying to swap the rear subframe on my R34 and can't remove the L-shaped stay brackets between the front subframe mounts and the sill/chassis. I'm in the UK so rust is a problem. I've used loads of WD40 and then Tunap 103 for days beforehand. I backed off the bolts forward a bit, backward a bit repeatedly for ages to try and avoid snapping. They have all moved a few full turns. The one I've spent most time on has come loose and I can turn with fingers, and it will pull down and push up 2-3mm. But it won't come out. I can tighten it back up and loosen it off again repeatedly but it still won't come out. I assumed there's a captive nut inside but if that's broken loose then I can't understand why I can always tighten the bolt back up - I'd expect it to just spin both ways. Any ideas what's happening here? I can't visualise what's inside there to cause this.
