Hey,

Ive noticed recently that when i reach 100km/h i get a huge vibration feeling throughout the car.

Cant even see through the rear view mirror as its vibrating.

Vibration can be felt through seat, gearstick etc basically the whole car.

This started to happen after a new clutch install...

Is there any chance this could be caused from the installation?

Thanks

was the flywheel machined properly? wat sort of clutch was installed? was the tailshaft done up properly? is the crossmember rubber mount done up properly? the 2 little bolts in the middle of the crossmember get forgotten about alot

flywheel was machined by workshop

exedy heavy duty clutch with 1050kg pressure plate

Not sure about all the other questions as workshop/mechanic did the swap.

Will be going tomorrow to have a talk.

Just wanted some info from SAU before i head over there :P

Took it to a wheel/tyre specialist, they took car for a test drive and said it wasnt wheel balance/alignment related.

Taking car back to mechanic on Friday to see if he can fix the problem, mentioned to him that it could be tailshaft and he said it could be a possibility.

thanks turboedsloth

Yeh, i suddenly had a haggard vibration through the tailshaft of my old gts-t once at a pretty high speed, arrived at home and had a look under the car, 1 of the bolts from the bracket that bolts the tailshaft to the undercarriage had fallen out and it was hanging on a 20 degree angle, luckily no damage, evil thing

Just got back from mechanic which double checked the tailshaft.

Everything is tight and put back the correct way (tailshaft was marked upon removal etc)

Ill book in for a 4wheel balance regardless of what the test driver said, that way i will be 1000000% sure it isnt a balance problem hehe

I am having the same problem with my GTR. Judging by the fact that you have a GTS-T, helps me rule out anything to do with the 4WD system.

I can tell you it isn't a wheel balance because I just had new tyres put on a week ago accompanied by a full electronic wheel balance. Everything showed 100%.

I have been told it could be the diff and so far, I am believing it. If you find out before I do what the problem is, could you please let us know?

I'm in Melbourne too and wouldn't mind meeting up to know for sure if you're problem is the exact same as mine. Sounds like it though.

Fulvio.

PM sent, mechanic also mentioned that if a wheel balance doesnt fix the issue, then it could be the diff.

Getting camber/castor/steering rack/pineapple bushes changed as we speak along with remove/replace of a leaking power steering rack.

I will let you know if i still have a vibration problem afterwards

hrmm

well all my suspension bushes have been replaced and a 4wheel balance & wheel alignment were done yesterday.

Vibration is still there at 100km/h

Went back to the suspension place to double check everything, and he mentioned that if the vibration is felt through the back seat, floor etc then it is a driveline vibration.

Also mentioned that it is the tailshaft as in the r32 its in 2 parts or something and happened after clutch install.

hey guys! i just had a similar prob, i had a gearbox replaced and the car had vibration

at over 80kph, it ended being the centre bearing was shit and the tailshaft needed to be 15mm longer. but the damage also went to the yoke seal on the gearbox.

best thing to do is take it to a driveline specialist. not including the price of the box,

that monkey mechanic who didn't check his work has cost me $1200.

could have bought a rb25det box after all,, :D

excuse my stupidity but where is the centre bearing you speak of?

i have the same exact problem aswell, approx 105km/h and it shakes, only gets worse and you go faster too

have a feeling its the diff or gearbox as it makes a grinding noise between 2-2.5k on each gear aswell AND also can hear a bearing spinning noise (input shaft bearing?) when the clutch is not pressed and its sitting in neutral

tek 01, the centre bearing sits roughly half was between the gear box and the diff... best way to check if it's buggered or not is to through yourself under the car...may need to be jacked up at the rear and push and pull on you tail shaft, if it moves around and clunks it's stuffed... if it stays relativly 'center' it's not you centre bearing... we have a distributer in makcay called hardy n spice.... thats where i got mine from...they seem to know there stuff

have a feeling its the diff or gearbox as it makes a grinding noise between 2-2.5k on each gear aswell AND also can hear a bearing spinning noise (input shaft bearing?) when the clutch is not pressed and its sitting in neutral

sounds alot like your thrust bearing...is it absolutly every gear that it grinds at 2-2.5 k?........ how many K's on the car?

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
