Its shitful to hear how they're treating you Mitch. Ruby is spot on though, but would be very interesting to find out if their workshop carried any insurance? If it doesn't maybe thats why they said to you about your own comprehensive insurance?

Hope it all goes well for you mate and you can make some sense of all this disorder. Keep your chin up mate

i would if i could...

apparently my car has to have comprehensive insurance to be covered there and that their insurance doesnt cover it?

pm me if you like Pete

cheers Krishy :)

who says.......Dave & Mike??? :P

What if they only had your engine on their premises and it was stolen.......you can't comprehensivley insure an engine!

Speak to consumer affairs......your car was secured on private property, not driven on the road.

correct.

keys were in the ignition of my car and all the other cars in the shop which even if i did have comp insurance on it , wouldnt do shit...

What sort of workshop leaves the customers cars overnight with the keys in it???.....the only reason they are prob trying to say that your insurance will have to cover it is most likely because theirs is void as they didnt practise according to the agreement with the insurance company by leaving the keys in the cars....and since yours wasnt the only one they had left in the ignition makes me kinda sus.......

When i had my car at tilbrooks (back when they were open) my car was securely parked and keys properly locked away....now thats professionalism

if anyone can recommend or give me legal advice that would be greatly appreciated.

PM answered Mitch.

First step is to make a police report. List all damages/items stolen. You'll need a report number.

Second step is contact Legal Aid for some initial free advice. Ask them about the conditions of Liability Insurance and cover for the "cost of damage to customer cars". There should be Liability Insurance for such a situation, and you should be covered under such a policy.

Lastly, this will not be over in a short time. This can and will drag on for a lengthy time. The most likely scenario is that you will have to pay to get your car back on the road and can/will be reimbursed later. Keep all receipts/records of transactions.

Mitch thats crazt for the workshop to treat you like that !

wow, Im never going there

best of luck with it, you'll come out ok just will be a protracted effort by the looks of it

take ruby's advice - police report, legal advice

    • I downloaded the apps (for windows) and Consult 1 doesn't have this function on it for the Consult 1 plug which I'm pretty sure all Skylines have. You would think someone would have a workaround after 30 years for all Skylines which have ABS.
    • Also, I don't know the actual ABS system on the skylines, but a sneaky thing could be a piece of electronic equipment that makes the ABS think you're moving, and then same piece can send a signal for a locked up tyre... Activate ABS without slamming brakes...
    • The team at OBD2 Australia are pretty good, shoot them an email and ask them. I've dealt with them before for work stuff. I'd be shocked if it didn't work, so long as Consult can activate the ABS. But you might need to use KLine for it which would be the stopper, as I don't think that piece does KLine comms.
    • Yeah and hence my ghetto way of slamming the brakes, get the ABS to cycle, rebleed seems to be a sensible workaround.
    • Hey! Happy to help. Nothing inherently wrong with the adapter, it's more so with Brett Collins himself. He gave me a lot of incorrect information when I was in contact with him and was extremely rude when I challenged him. He stated I could not use any aftermarket twin plate clutches except for his own, not to use the dush shield, bla bla bla and it was all BS.  Collins stated to cut roughly 14mm's off the housing, I took off 15mm to make room for the dust shield. I would confirm with whatever adapter manufacturer you're using.
