Attn scandy;

How much was your turbo rebuild and hiflo and where did you get it done again? Looking at buying some N1's that are in need of rebuild cheap and sussing my options if its even worth buyin haha

your best (cheapest) bet is to find a pair of blown ceramics and sending them over to Antimatter in melb and get them rebuilt. Hes doing a pair for me at the moment (which i need to get off my arse and pay him the rest of the cash i owe him)

best thing is, if its in the original gtr turbo housing, regency wont know any difference

i was reminded this evening why i rarely drive the s14 to work. people stopping dead in front of me at 80km/h in a merging lane when they have more than ample room to merge, ive had to jump on the skids because i dont have the room to skirt around him, and the guy behind me has had to spear off the side of the road, and the guy in front had the nerve to jump out of his shitbox and abuse me for 'not knowing how to drive.'

f**k i hate shit people.

n1's are bb yeah? rebuild kit is $1300 or something for a bb. dunno. could be wrong.

got it done through hypergear (check on ns.com), standard rebuild was $400, highflow was $800.

got thru it alright, will be ideal with a snorkel later down the track. had a steep old drop off on one side as you go in............got thru it easily, but dont trust my door seals that much to do it more than once

got an irritating as all f**k knock in the front left corner on right hand turns and hard lefts.

rather concerning when youre doing the uh... speed limit through the hills and you hear that.

any suggestions as to what it could be?

^ Hey Scandy.

It could be your wheels hitting the struts? or wheel guard... why that side? maybe it could be due you Adelaide poor camber roads :P

or... you hit the corner hard?

or a leaky strut?

hope that helps....

ps; SwineFlu sucks... a whole week off isnt as good as it seems, you sleep all the time and just plain bored!

no leaky strut, checked that. plenty of wheel-sturt clearance, enough wheel-guard clearance for it to not be that (only scrapes on hard bumps), so im at somewhat of a loss. matty suggested it could be ball joints. seems likely. i reckon theyre oem...

You can buy brand new -5's for less than that.

Coils with camber tops? Not the spherical bearing in the top rattling? I had that with a set of coil's in my car drove me mad till i pulled them out when i sold them and found out what it was...spewing

How much man? I will have a daily soon so I'll just rip my turbos off and send them away if the price is good?

PM me if you dont want it on the forum.

You'll have to PM him for a quote for his labour and parts as Im not sure what the prices are like atm, and if you want to buy a pair of turbos I'll have my stockers for sale after the new ones are fitted, but we're talking a couple months here

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
