GTR-32U
bit of an unfair comparison as the GTR was world class in its day. But these people who are assuming that GTR wouldnt last 6 hours...sorry but they did..not only that they also won the SPA 24 hr..I couldnt see v8s lasting that long with there shit rocker gear.Take todays skyline and modify it to the level of v8 supercar and it would wipe the floor with them. For how much cash is going into them they really are dissapointing. The top speeds they are pulling down straights are no faster than the old group A cars. Sure they are cornering faster but with that massive oversized wing kit its only rightfully so. Along with the fact that they run billet suspension arms much like an F1 car under those guards. As for Supercars being so restricted, Tyres are control only to lower cost..dont fool yourself into believing that other manufacturers tyres are far superior...they are not..!! Sure if they raised the rev limit they would make another 50-100 horsepower. but would they last....I doubt it!..No car was ever as resticted as the GTR was...It was carrying so much weight in ballast it actually raced 20 kg heavier than the street version. It was starting to crack brake rotors and wheels off memory. As I know for a fact they were also fitted with a boost limiting device( pop off valve or something ).This car could easily have ran 2 or more secs a lap faster..If you want to spend the money then speed comes with it..look at the Tsukuba lap battle events...Garage saurus has a very impressive R32...I dont think an all out supercar would touch that Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/188452-gtr-vs-the-v8-supercars/page/8/#findComment-3410376 Share on other sites

mad082
i didn't know that the v8 supercars even have a set amount of ignition timing that they can run. winterbottom got excluded from qualifying for exceeding this limit. TRUSTM3
Cant compare 1992 group A to 2007 V8SC. chalk n cheese. But when it was group A the GTR was king. No doubt about it. I have some mates that like V8 cars and when we talk about group A they complain about how the GTR had AWD and turbos etc. You know what i say to them whining? NEVER BRING A KNIFE TO A GUN FIGHT! joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo
Yeah, i hate the old V8 "anyone can do that with a turbo strapped on" argument... RyanVLSL
i really find holden/ford fans amusing. they seem oblivious to the fact that commodores and falcons have 4 doors, and are family cars. you may as well drive a people mover. Oblivious? Mate plenty of Holden and Ford fans know exactly what their cars are. Yes you get the clowns who think they're sports cars, but don't tar us all with the same brush. Plenty of dickheads think their stock GTS-Ts are what raced at Bathurst 17 years ago too. Plenty of dickheads think their stock GTS-Ts are what raced at Bathurst 17 years ago too. my bad. i just find holdens and fords so bland. there are a few exceptions, torana, sierra... i dont mind VLs as far as commodores are concerned. my comment was more directed at those who were arguing that holdens and fords are in the same league as the gt-r, when clearly they are not. family car v race car. i hope you are not taking the liberty of presuming that i speak of my (modified) gts-t in the same sentence as a gt-r. because i dont. there is only one godzilla. and i intend to become the proud owner of one. i very much resent people putting gt-r badges on gts-ts. are they the sort of people youre referring to? Whiplash
Don't know about 15 year old GTR but JGTC/SUPER GT GT500 class cars are superior than V8 SUPERCARs. Technically more advanced in many areas like lightweight tube-frame chassis, the freedom to change engines with other models made by the manufacturer, change the alignment of the engine, forced induction and such which ensure faster corner speed and lap times than most GT racing cars in the world, if not out right grunt. You may find this interesting: "In recent years however, rule changes in both GT500 and FIA GT1 (aimed at eventually allowing both classes to compete with each other in the future) have brought the cars closer to each other, although GT500 cars still have a notable advantage in terms of aerodynamics - an FIA GT1 spec Maserati MC12 entered (and later withdrawn) by Team Goh was losing at least 1 second in the corners during (2006) pre-season testing at the Suzuka Circuit" 2007 Suzuka lap time: TAKATA DOME NSX Ryo Michigami Takashi Kogure* 1'45.601 Not only is V8 supercars slower but the fact it's a two-horse race makes it the most boring motor racing in the world. Ok maybe second only to Nascars. Maybe. Just my 2c the best comparison i could find was from Sepang. GT500 - 1.54.306 (nismo Z) GT300 - 2.06.669 (MRS) FIA GT2 - 2.09.493 (997 GT3 RSR) V8 Supercar - 2.15.849 (Ex DJR BA qualifying for Sepang 12 hour) The v8 was being run by a privateer Malaysian team in the 12 hour race. I seriously doubt that a Top Aussie team would be able to pull the car up to the GT300 time, it would be much closer to the FIA 997 RSR's time. if the v8's want to get serious about making faster cars get some decent aero packages for them!! Bumblebee
Well... i just wanted to say that a super v8 doesnt cost 80k.. otherwise no1 would buy a hsv... those cars r worth 1mil+ champ.. and they cant even lap within the times of a 300hp MR-S?? lol thats pretty pathetic really... its not always about power.. its about chassis design. and its obvious that as well as they handle, they dont come close to overseas competition.. and i said last time.. JGTC cars are the fastest GT style cars in the world.. and that doesnt mean speed only.. also handling and everything else that makes a race car a race car. GTR will always be King of the Road & Track Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/188452-gtr-vs-the-v8-supercars/page/8/#findComment-3427073 Share on other sites

IDO 11S R32
I actually have the bathursts from that era, I have been recording the races since 91 and have every Bathurst, In that era the GTR's had SH#T brakes and were quite heavy, and had not much development, I think you could build an R32 GTR that would give a current V8SC a run for its money round any track, but as has already been said these cars ran on two different sets of rules so if you were going to race them what rules would you be using??? If you watch the 1990 bathurst where a Walkinshaw won against the GTR you will see that across the top of the mountain the Walky smashed the GTR, but down the straights the GTR smashed everything in its path, in its time it had unrivaled acceleration. As they developed the car the brakes got better as did the car and it was unbeatable, but remember back then the V8s were only producing about 450-500hp. And im sure that if you bought a GTR in 1990 and told someone that you were going to build a street car with 400awkw and it would be a daily driver and a 2.6l 6, they would tell you that your full of shit! where as with todays tecnology this is achieved with ease and people will say so your keeping it tame then. Remember the 1st horsepower heros at summernats, not that long ago, the car that won made something like 400rwhp, and people thought that was amazing, today we are seeing 4 digit numbers, so what I am trying to say is the tecnology is different today so unless someone actually does this we will never know. P.S: If anyone gets a chance hire or buy the 1990 Bathurst 1000, its an awesome watch, they call the GTR a computer on wheels, amazed by its technology, they cant stop raving about it. Two years later they were cursing it, if anyone remembers in the last season of group A racing CAMS slapped 200kg on the GTR in an attempt to slow it down and it still dominated, it was well ahead of its time thats for sure. Thats my 2cents! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/188452-gtr-vs-the-v8-supercars/page/8/#findComment-3427130 Share on other sites

Bumblebee
the Vn Group A race car was makin 600hp.. the GTR was makin just a lil bit more @ i think was 630-640hp? but also weighed about 200kg more than the vn.. the sierras made around 500hp.. but we're much lighter than the rest, hence it owned everything till the GTR came along Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/188452-gtr-vs-the-v8-supercars/page/8/#findComment-3427405 Share on other sites

gts-4 dreamer
in current super tourers the gtr would make the same power and wieght but have the advantage of awd and the power loss in the drive train so wet weather performance and power out of corners would be greater but overall straight line would underperform.. much the same as the group A racing back in the day. Im am curious what the curb wight of a current super tourer in oz racing is, ie what are they made to be no less than ? They are essentially very similar vehicles at the end of the day though factory backed teams always seem to have the edge dont they?
