Hi

I just rang a perfomance place and was asking a couple of questions regarding my high idle problem (R32 GTR) and I had told them that I had pulled apart the throttle bodies and removed the butterflies from them to be cleaned. Then they told me that to put the butterflies back in there is a long procedure that is outlined in the GTR manual. I cant find this in the manual and I have done a search in google and in skylines australia (using: throttle, butterflies, gtr throttle etc) and there is no mention of this anywhere.

Can anyone verify that this procedure exsists and if so where can I find it?

Thanks

have you checked and cleaned all your idle control valves?

there is one that mixes the air specifically for idle ( well I am only basing that knowledge on the sr20det motors , but presume the same would apply. )

why not just mark everything before you take it apart - with one of those white marker pens so you can ensure alignment etc is A-OK on reassembly

you can run into problems when removing butterflies from the intake. to the best of my knowledge there is a thing coating on the intake runners that helps them seal which is slowly worn away (could be wrong about this, as I've never been able to pick it myself). also, there are seals on the sides where the rods are and these are hard (impossible?) to source and replace. if they are leaking you will have high idle. also when re-installing the throttles to the intake you need new gaskets and may even need to have the mating surfaces 'faced'.

^^^ yeah its a fun job. luckily after a few times you learn the tricks.... the first one i did back a the barn in SA took me a fair while and many skun fingers

Cats car had the same issues, i had the lot hot tanked and re-assembled the lot using metal gaskets and hylomar spray..... fixed it beautifully. the setting precedure is 100% in the manual as i downloaded it off this forum

if yuo give me your email i will send the pages through.

edit: email sent as i cant upload PDF from here at work.

gucia i had the same problem after i cleaned the throttles.

when i cleaned them i removed the butterflies on 1 of the throttles.

when i put them back in i didnt check to see wether i could see light through the throttles.and there for had a high idle ie.1300-1400

disconnect your throttle rods and make sure the throttle levers are hitting the bumpstop.

cheers

johnny

ps.it is a absolute mongrel of a job to remove the plenum to get the throttles back out
