Hey Guys,

Mate ran up the back of me, we have agreed to pay 50/50 on repairing my baby.

From the pictures can you guys give me some recommendations and rough prices on how much this is going to cost to repair, and where on the Gold Coast or Brisbane. I want to get a few quotes before asking how much my mate can pay.

From what i can see i need the following parts.

*Rear bar + paint

*Complete new exhaust or just repair the 2 bends (one bend in the middle and the dump pipe) whats the cheaper option?

*Left hand side rear panel needs banging out and respray.

*The boot itself doesn't close properly, and where the spare tyre sits its a little bumped upwards...its not level

I want to get a quote on the absolute minor things that need to be done to fix, get half the money off my mate, then go all out..full respray new kit etc.

Peace

Tone

probably be like $450 for the bumper to be fixed and repainted... you'll have to get a new exahust so around $200 and tipping... so around $700 mate... it's not a huge problem... save up and get it fixed.

^ Its not as easy as that mate. You are forgetting the fender which looks like the most expensive part to fix. Not to mention the rear reinforcement bar or whatever its called. The fuel tank looks a bit screwed too.

Whats that I see on your left C pillar near the top? :P

thanks guys, yeah the crease near the C piller was like that when i bought the car, im getting that fixed anyways. But will leave that out of the quote for now.

I reckon that's about $4k + worth of damage there. Why are you even paying half if you got hit anyway?

Even tho he ran up the back of me, it was kinda my fault aswell.

I locked up at an amber light going red, and he locked up too, i rekon if the road wasnt wet it wouldnt have happened.

so how did you get the dent in the side. I know the C pillar one was there already. looking at that - $4k min. they will have to replace the fuel tank, rear boot panel, bumper support, bumper cover, rear tail light. the spare tyre well may pull out.

if the side dent happened at the same time you have frame damage. that opens up another can of worms.

The dent in the side just happened, he hit me square on. Should have seen the other car, it was an excel btw, complete write off.

4k ouch !!

the tail lights are fine and seem to be working.

The tail lights could be working, but the seals are all stuffed. Water, dirt, etc will get into it. Best to replace.

I agree with the others though, you're looking at at least $4k, probably even $5k.

That's a bummer mate - with due respects; your car is worth around $8K or something? Fixing it could even nearly buy you a new one - I would sell it and get pay some more and get a new R32 or even a R33 or R34... sorry to see this happen, I can see how upset you would be...

One question though, with your Mate's car - no mention of it's damages... how is he coping?

Yeah hes not doing to well.

This happened 3 hours after getting his license. (unlucky huh)

hahahah ... I know how it feels, I was the same... got my license then a couple of hours later smashed right into my Mum's $50K 4WD ... she was pulling here hair out... I'm still trying to pay her back for repairs to this date (like 7 years later) lol... so yeah, that's why P-platers often get shitty cars for their first cars... shit happens... can't be prevented.

the crease at the top of the c pillar is a factory join. they bronze it together.

i would take it to the best smash repair place u can and get them to see if its repairable. U might find after a few measurements the chassis is no good anymore. Usually it is front hits that write cars off the fastest so u might be lucky.

Buy the time u keep the 4-5k and wreck it u might get ur money back.

it must be said tho, as if lock up like that in the wet at an amber light!

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
