hey everyone, been doing a bit of searching on here and didnt come up with the answer I was looking for.

My stock radiator is cracked and I was thinking maybe alloy upgrade as oppose to get stock one fixed. if i get one of these 40-50mm alloy ones, will it just drop in fine, or will I need to remove the clutch fan aswell and put thermos in?

i found that, you dont have to remove the clutch fan, but is a good idea, plonk in 2 12" thermo's.

and if u get one specifically for the r33 gtst, yea, it will slot straight in.

+ they look way better that the old ones...ewww

lol 2 12 inch ouch thats too small.. min of a 14inch. but personally the clutch fan is the best way.. that and lose the damn a/c lol blocks way too much airflow.

JJR are ok rads.. they use cooling pro but apparently they use pressed cap mouths.

farken thermos...hate them..unless you run them off a sperate controller like a pivot controller then dont bother. and 16" min. only need one.

dude wtf are u on about getting rid of the shroud the only reason u keep the single clutch pack fan is cause the shroud draws all ait to the fan n00b..

u dnt need a controller RB20 have a thermo switch sensor on the radiator. green plug wire it to ther. i run single 16inch on the RB20 silvia. with no a/c and ohh guess what its farkin quicker than a GTST.. and has more stable water temps than my 180sx. :P

Nothing wrong with Thermos, Unless of course its not setup right. Infact thermos are better than belt driven, because your temps are not controlling your belts. And it helps to free up your engine.

Removing your shroud is not a good idea. when using any fan. You wont fit too many thermos on these radiators, as they are not long enough. Unless you make a custom shroud for the thermos. Your better off using 1x 16 inch or whatever your measured max diameter is.

I'll also be doing this upgrade asap. As my radiator is cracked too. Probably going to get the JJR ones, $400 drop in. away you go. cant complain. 12 month warranty too :P

Do you know if the R33 came with this wiring standard also? It would save me money on a thermo switch, and time wiring it :).. do you know if you can also modify the standard thermo switch to kick in desired temperature? or should i just stick to the thermo switch.

Edit*, you will find that it will always be on. and draining your battery. also you cant keep the temps at an optimized level.

we found that the thermo will actually bring the coolant alot lower than the optimized temp. You put cold coolant into a hot hi-reving engine. you will crack it.

You already made a fool of yourself in the fabrication thread and have been caught out lying about your age and occupation. I'd quit now before you lose even more face.

Yeah i Had to do thermos in the old GTSX when we did the engine swap...

I didnt think much of them... Easy to setup, but in winter the car ran too cold, then in summer ran too hot...

You could not get it perfect... They sucked arse basiclly...

Mine were Craig Davies 14" one btw so it was not cheap. But only use one as a last resort, stick to the standard fan where possible :P

well let me put it this way. i have an aftermarket radiator that doesnt fit the shroud. Its been fine so far, even on the hot days i havn't seen the temp guage move (although im well aware it prob doesnt start moving till 100+degrees - not a good temp).

so do i:

a) keep going as is - from all reports its fine, especially since the radiator i have is better than the stock one.

b) get a big thermo with custom shroud made up

or c) try and somehow get a new shroud made for the standard clutch fan that will mount to my rad.

Do you know if the R33 came with this wiring standard also? It would save me money on a thermo switch, and time wiring it :rofl:.. do you know if you can also modify the standard thermo switch to kick in desired temperature? or should i just stick to the thermo switch.

why not just have the thermo wired to turn on when the car turns on ?

    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.  
    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
