Here's what it looks like now:

DSC_2039.JPG

The car lands in Melbourne on the 6th October + another 3 weeks or so for compliance = 1 more month to wait :)

Looking forward to be able to attend some meets in Melbourne soon

I think I just had an accident.

  • 3 weeks later...

Damm thats a nice v36 you got here Aly that is sexy as. How much inches lower did u put the coilovers and also does it rub as well?

Thanks Rob. I actually raised the height compared to those pictures. They were taken with RSR Black coils on them (that's the highest they would go). It was too impractical for Australian roads, and I was told that there was a high chance that I would scrape when driving the car up and down the ramp when shipping to Australia. So I bought the KW V3's and raised it about an inch. I'll probably leave it that height for a while, the handling hasn't really suffered

No problem :), So you have raised it that's good then man more better than scraping it lol

Hey guys,

I've been a member on here for a while - i've had a couple of skylines and a stagea rs4-s which i sold 12 months ago - but defected for a period and bought a BMW 525 M-Sport and now own a 2008 Mazda MPS - which is currently for sale.

I do a large commute to and from work in peak hour Melb traffic and the short ratio's in the MPS make for a tiresome trip of constant gear changing and clutch balancing. So i'm looking for something auto, a bit more luxurious, but still unique. Had never considered a V35 until i came up with that criteria!

Ideally I'd like a low km pearl white 2006+ premium with sunroof. - and happy to wait for the right car. In the mean time i'll just be here to soak up as much info as possible!

Cheers

Mat

Coupe or Sedan? I think the V35 Sedan finished in 2006. the coupe might have gone through to early 2007.. not sure though.

If you don't have any luck finding something here, your best option would be to sign up with an importer and they will keep an eye on auctions in Japan and let you know when something comes up. But it there could be a bit of a wait if you are quite particular with what you want.

Thanks guys - I'm definitely after a coupe.

I know my demands are fairly high, and have looked at some importers sites (j-spec) already - but it seems as though their prices are as high as sourcing something landed. I know it might make it easier to get what I want but I get some comfort from speaking to an owner who has had the car landed for a while and has started sorting out the bugs. I bought my stagea off a guy who had owned it for 6 years since importing, and it was such a well sorted car and never gave me any trouble - if only it didn't use 23L/100km.....

My main reason for wanting a 2006 is the headlights. But i guess if the right <2006 came along I can do a retrofit.

All the links in the 'Hot Topics' section seem to be broken, which is frustrating cos it's all the info I need! Any mods got a fix?

I recommend V36 coupes =P and if you are looking to import, Prestige Motorsport or Iron Chef can get you sorted and make sure the cars you get from Japan are top quality. They have agents there who will physically look at the car and comment, take a lot of pictures of whatever you want of the car and give advice. It would be a long wait though, considering DOTARs are working so f***ing slow lately.

Yep.. Do the 06-07 V35 coupes come with the same projectors as the G35? If they do, they are rare as f*ck

Yeh the 2006 models have the projector bi-xenons.

I'm a big fan of lighting....if there is such a thing....i've done a couple of retro-fits before. For those who don't know what that is, it usually means taking the projector housings from another model car, opening up the headlight housings and inserting them into a reflector bowl housing, or replacing an existing projector with a better performing one to get higher output and, wider beam patterns and sharper cutoff lines. i get most of my parts from www.theretrofitsource.com

I was thinking i could just buy a <2006 and do a retrofit. But a) it's not ADR legal - and b) it's a bit of stuffing around and having already investigated the prices of second hand reflector beam housings for V35's it could be an expensive 'experiment'! I'd rather get the factory fitted units straight up, and the infiniti projectors are some of the best available.

importing is probably a process i can't be bothered going through. once the MPS sells i'll have to move on a replacement pretty quickly because i'll be driving my girlfriend's car in the interim. I don't think I could wait on a lengthy and unspecified import timeline.

Think a v36 coupe is probably beyond my budget as i'm trying to get something on the road for the 25-27k mark - but will admit they are an amazing looking car and a lot nicer inside and out than the v35.

can anyone point me in the direction of a 'buyers guide'? common things to look for?

Then DAMN they are hard to find, i have only ever seen 1 set for sale and from memory they were close to $800 used..

Buyers guide for a V35.. there's a big list. I think most of it is really common sense when buying a vehicle.

Things like making sure the car is in perfect or near perfect mechanical condition, making sure the body and paintwork has no blemishes, ensuring everything inside the vehicle works, finding the right amount of km's for the right price... etc

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
