hey

just went to vicroads (obviously in victoria) and it seems that getting the engine number changed in their books is harder then what everyone first said. Took my r32 in with the new rb25 and they were saying it will need an engineers report done. I did the the research before i got all this done and i was told this wouldnt be the case dude to a small range of r32s that came out with rb25de.

Even the mechanic who apparently has done a lot of these converts said i wouldnt need one.

Anyone had their car passed no troubles without and engineers?

I'm not too sure about the engineering cetificate etc. but find out the difference between the rb25 r32 and the rb20 r32. For instance, the rb25 version have bigger brakes, you will need to do this. Otherwise, if the only difference is the engine, then I think you may be right and don't really need the engineering certificate. Good luck mate

I fitted a RB25DET from a Stagea into by 32 GTS4. I simply went to my local Vicroads (E. Burwood) and filled out the "I've changed the engine number" form, They checked the engine number on the block matched the engine number on the form. No problems.

Not sure if the figures below are accurate but: (PM R31Nismoid, he's done alot of research on this issue)

I believe if you increase the capacity by over 0.1ltrs or increase the power (from factory spec) by over 20% you legally need an engineer's cert.

Alot of people get away with it because the person behind the counter has no idea, you simply got someone that was "switched on" and knows how to do their job. I wouldn't be surprised if the person has now marked your registration as requiring a engineer's cert, so don't bother trying at another depot. I would also ring VICroads and inquire about the status of your registration and whether you can still legally drive it (till you get it engineered); you'd hate to get done for driving an unregistered vehicle :(.

Getting an engineer's for the conversion shouldn't be to hard, as Skylines are generally over engineered from factory, but ensure you have std parts, with only one intake mod. The only problem you may have is the extra $$'s you have not accounted for.

    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
    • I also used NP   That’s were it’s seems to be the best place to fit it? All schematic shows also that it’s should be referenced from the turbo housing. But idk, I do see high hp cars without any connection or anything to their turbos, so I really don’t know how they connect their things
    • I do have loctite 243 and 246 and a few more models. I could drill it now in place and make new threads for m12 and order an4 - m12 coupling and fit that to the turbo. Run a braided hose to the EBC which I could get a an4 to 1/8npt

    • Wouldn’t touch par if they gave it to me. You need to ask how much power you’re looking to make and then add about 50% to it because that’s what you’ll end up making  The factory box says no more at about 350kw or so, the upgraded synchro boxes won’t handle much over 500kw for long and at that point you’re looking at an auto or dog engagement manual,  once you’ve gone dog engagement you may as well go sequential, they cost a little bit more but it’s worth it  also while you’re at it you should upgrade the transfer case with 10 friction plates
