if you keep all your na parts you could always convert it back to na if u were going to sell it or if u were done by cops.

As for the cops thou if u wanted to make it legal you have to have all emmisions devices and need to upgrade brakes other than that because its a turbo kit that has passed emmissions im quite sure there wouln't be any problems.

As for smart cops all you would need is to convert to 5 stud and take the gts badge off the rear and it would be impossible to tell if you were pulled over, and if your not on your p's there would be no reason the cops would look into by checking rego details model code ect.

as for later limitations my car originally made 160@wheels last dyno with mostly stock items no front mount but microtech and upgraded fuel system running on 5psi, when i eventually get everything back together i now have a big front mount and a few other goodies should get 200ish with some uped boost and 230ish should be possible with a bigger turbo, with the responce of the car i dont think you would want to keep going and going with power but even as with a gtst anything 250 and above you would have to start pulling the engine apart and upgrading. A set of new forgies or even gtr internals should be sweet enough to help up the power.

On the down side the gearbox and diff will brake earlier and the brakes Should be upgraded but they if your planning on building anything with a decent amount of power out of a gtst most people upgrade the diff and brakes anyways so you wouldnt be out that much there.

Another down side would be your insurance will go up.

All things considered there are good things and bad things y to or not to do it but its a personal choice because everyones wants and needs out of a car are different. Its best to sit down and think what you really want out of your car and asses what works for you. If really happy with the power of the na as is which is pretty nice and just want a little bit more kick chances are turboing will satisfy ur needs for quite a while if not indefinate.

Al raises some good points. It really depends on how far you've gone with the current car and where you see yourself with the car in a few years time.

this way il be driving something different...

not exactly, it's still a turbo R33.

However I will say that, buying any sort of R32-R33 (I assume no one is talking about an R34 GTT, because it simply wouldn't work out cost wise) you'll be buying a car with very close to or more than 100,000km.

The turbochargers are pretty much on their last legs and requiring a rebuild - answer; highflow.

Then ECU, then intercooler, hey then it somehow becomes a full blown rebuild going for 500HP.

Sit down, do the maths... see which one fits your budget - go from there.

well put unarmed_skyline... you read my mind lol...

i know people catch the bug of wanting more power out of a car... but i think once i get the car turboed and just do FMIC, Fuel Pump, and after market ecu il be more than happy with my car... as for the future im not expecting huge amount of KW's because i just dont see a point of it if im going to go to and from uni and the local shops...

i have thought long and hard about this and i think i know exactly what im heding into.. and if it doesnt happen then bad luk move on...

cheers

hmmm J3TR33 i was in the same position as you mate i was going to just slap a turbo onto my RB25DE but i knew what i wanted...i just wanted more power and yeah...instead of wacking a turbo in i just put the RB25DET engine in so yeah that was my choice but turboing the RB25DE is not a bad choice...reliability is dependant on your tune mostly and ur driving style >_< hehe but yeah i mean if u chose to do it then do it don't let ne one stop ya....at the end of the day its your car....and with the brakes...i upgraded the front brakes to the turbo brakes, goin to upgrade the rears soon but if u don't upgrade u could just run really good pads for back and front it would be ok :) i kept my wheels 4 stud so i just redrilled the rotor :) hope that helps

Compression isn't really as much of an issue as people seem to think.

the 25de+t on a 25det ecu will happily make as much power as a normal 25det befroe R&R, wont hit any problems due to compressions, only gains (more power less boost, more responsive etc) and from then on, to get more power, your going to need after market management, and from there its in the tune, you could make as much power as the internals can handle, compression wont be the limiting factor here.

as for internals strength, the 25de and the 25det are essential identical motors, same strength, just different pistons (internally), even the same cams, different springs (though i haven't heard of any problems on stock limiter) differnt cam timing (adj cam gear fixes that, but it didn't seem to hurt at all)

so becasue of the fact the the 25de is as strong as the 25det, and it has likely had a whole lot less abuse, with less power to stress it, its gonna be a much better motor to turbo. also, id much rather run 9psi for 200rwkw on 10:1CR than 12+psi on 9:1 CR, tell me whats more reliable??

I dont know about the diffs in them, but i know the gearbox will be a problem, 25de is the same as 25det (but single 2nd gear synchro) it will handle the power, but wont like abuse AT ALL, you wont want to snatch gears etc, just slowly shift it into gear, let it engage, easy the clutch, then stomp it, you can do it smooth and not sacrifice much, and for a daily i dont see a problem with this, i prefer sedate smooth gear changes, then feel the power of the car in the gear coming into power. But down the trak you might need a 25det box, but once again, alot have been abused.

As for brakes, yeah you should upgrade them, but are you going to do 180 in your car? or drive full noise through twisties? if yes, then defiantly, put the best brakes you can on it, but if your just going to drive it normally with a little bit quicker acceleration - healthy n/a brakes are more than enough, just legal factor i suppose.

clutch, prob over 150kw you'll need to get a better one, but once again, its a normal sorta thing for even a factory turbo car, its just one of the things you change.

You really wont regret it, high comp 25de+t's are HEAPS more fun than normal 25dets (probably also because alot are getting tired by now) you'll love it - don't let anyone talk you out of it

Since my car is auto i dont think il have problems with clutches... As for the brakes thats definetly on my mind of upgrading to at least the GTSt Brakes or better...

No point having a quik car when you have nothing to stop it with.. Boom into a pole... nah dont like that to happen...

a few questions...

will a Manual Ecu work perfect on my Auto car... or it doesnt matter?

what other turbo other than a stock r33 turbo can i put in?

Cheers albii

well in a word NO, lol u need an auto gtst ecu or an aftermarket that will work with auto, as for turbos, stock r32/r33 or anything around the gt28-30ish size would be good size depends on how much money u want to spend on it. idealy something like a stock high flow would be best cause then its not epaable (yes i made up a word lol )but anything is that sorta size would be good

hey guys..

i have had offers on a lot of the parts i need and i will most likely buy them soon.

But finding a Series 2 Turbo Ecu is doing my head in..

I have found a few tuned ones on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/RB25DET-JAP-Tuned-E...1QQcmdZViewItem

let me know what you guys think.. and also what other options do i have in terms of standalone ecu's.. for a good price...

cheers

engine managment is good :P

Pretty much you can use anything the turbo guys use, ive got a plug and play microtech lt12s think they're around $1300 + $500 for loom and $600ish+ for a tune.

Other wise you could get a power fc if u find one they're around $1500 +$300 for a tune but i dont think they work with autos

link i think they are around the same price but limited places to tune them

Wold 3d i think they are under 2k

the rest are all really expencive really

You could get a piggy back greddy e-manage blue i think they are around $800 ish plus install and tune

Dont get an safc, i used safc with my na+t and it couldnt push enough fuel into the car cause they only have an increace capibility of 10 or 15% not very good

hey..

what do people think of this

Series 2 Turbo Auto Ecu for $150 Delivered

its exactly what i need... but not sure about the price...

considering thers some going for $185 and then series 1 for $80 im not sure what is a good price...

Cheers

Adaptronic e420c for an ECU

Around $1300 should have it at your door. Plug it straight in, no need to upgrade AFM as it comes with a 3 bar map sensor.

I've got a tune on my ECU that would run your car, and be quite reasonable on fuel (I'm tuned rich) (It won't control the auto though)

As for 12PSi to make 200RWKW, I did it on 10PSi... So I dunno what you're on about there.

;)

It's an ecu not a turbo :P

I would think that's a reasonable price; you have to decide if you are willing to gamble whether another one will appear at a cheaper price :D

:worship:

It's an ecu not a turbo :nyaanyaa:

I would think that's a reasonable price; you have to decide if you are willing to gamble whether another one will appear at a cheaper price

yeh tru story... i might just buy it... they are hard to come buy.. especially auto series 2

if u just buy a turbo car, u can have 5stud wheels

lol yeh but i like to think that wheels will be cheaper on my car.. being 4 stud.. 1 stud less.. HAHAHA

nah jokesss...

thers always multi stud wheels out there

Skit R31 hit the nail on the head, do exactly as he said with the hiflow (more boost friendly than stock turbo, my car literally boosted off the mark) don't forget fuel reg and pump from a GTSt...all will bolt on and give awesome results with low boost.

Once you've got all the bolt-ons it's like a bloody lego kit, a weekend will see you finished :P

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
