The NSW goverment has suggested that hoons cars may be crushed and the video posted on the internet as a method of detering them from street racing.

Is anyone else worried about what might happen when that dickhead who tries to drag you off the lights comes unstuck and plows onto a tree or worse into someone else?

Even if you have done nothing wrong, you are driving the import, your car looks different, sporty...

What do you think?

I think it's stupid.. If the police were going to take possession of my val or my gtr to crush it i think i'd have a bodily spasm, and boot it off up the freeway, where inevitably i'd total it or be pit maneuvered.. or make it to mexico.. Laws like this do discourage "hoons" but.. on the other end of the scales, high speed pursuits are gonna increase alot when cops try to take the cars off "hoons" hands

ohhh it's a NSW thing, phew... still seems more sensible to sell the cars and use the money to make better roads >.<

eh wat "Offenders would have to be convicted of street racing before the vehicles could be destroyed".. only once?!

I've had cops try pin street racing on me in my corolla next to my mates skyline ffs (my wheels slipped.. fwd sucks), 1 offence = broken car = sucks

this is an absolute joke. some peoples cars are worth what $30-40k+?? so effectively its a $30 000+ fine, not to mention the towing/impound/destruction fees they would charge on top of that... it would be much more productive to use a large fine to improve roads. but of course theyd probably spend it on more speed cameras instead.

i do not condone "street racing" by any means. but my definition of street racing is large organised contests, or drag racing on a busy road where civilian vehicles are involved. random traffic light drags in the middle of nowhere at 2am never hurt anyone and are perfectly safe considering they generally end at about 100-120ks anyway.

like someone else said, such a disproportionate punishment will only encourage people to attempt to evade pursuit. then what will happen? some innocent will be killed as a result, pursuits will be deemed dangerous and regularly called off, and that will further encourage hoons to chance their arm.

meanwhile, i still see dozens of people talking on phones, and drink driving. but i guess "hoons" are "anti-social" and must be stamped out first...

+1 for your definition, thats exactly what it is..

You can get done for street racing at the moment even if you don't exceed the speed limit but accelerate quickly to it ffs

oh i forgot to add an interesting thought... what if the offending car isn't owned by the hoon?

ie: your car is registered in your mates name. and your mates car in your name.

they cant very well go and destroy a car someone else owns. stupid cops.

Really? I didn't know that. I think that really, REALLY rases the issue that the law could be abused, if it is witness vs witness (one invariably being a police officer). If this is the application of the law.

And the point of disproportionate punishment is a very interesting one. So if someone with a porshe or a holden GTS gets caught breaking the law in this manner, they will have their car crushed and effectively have a $100,000 fine. So the person in the beat up ol corrolla will get off very llightly indeed. Is it just me or are these people the ones who are breaking the law more often than not?

However I am generally in favour of means testing for fines etc, BUT it is the issue of someones property being destroyed that causes concern for me. A means tested (cash) fine would be more appropriate that way the fine is always going to be a suitable financial penalty.

And that was a good point about increasing the likelihood of dangerous police chases, I agree I think it is quite likely....probably more so for the person driving the porshe or otherwise fast car, which would ironically make the chase even more dangerous!

cheers for the thoughts, I do wonder whether the politicians have actually though about these things.

Politicians only consider votes with things like these you'll probably find..

When i was pulled up the cop basically asked if i new the person in the skyline, asked why i was dragging him etc.. i was like "this is a corolla, im not in any hurry, i'm not trying to drag a sports car that'd be pointless, i didn't even go past 50 in a 60 zone, tyres are new so bit squeaky (it was a tiny bit of spin, i dropped the clutch a lil fast at about 3k revs) i got a verbal warning (which is honestly absolute bs.. i didn't even accelerate with my foot flat to the floor and it's a 4AFE 1.6 litre 91 model FFS) and was told next time i was caught "dragging" my car would be impounded.... idk if it was because i was on P's though or what

If you commit break and enter.. do the police have the right to trash and steal out of your home?

If you shop lift.. is it fair for them to five finger discount your belongings?

If you commit arson.. do they burn down your house?

Personally.. I think its the biggest load of jizz in the world!.. I think its disgusting!

I remeber reading in an Autosalon Mag that in NSW, after the "no turbo, no charger, V8's, V6's" law came in, P plater accidents INCREASED!.. and wanna know why?

A performance car is a much safer car. Bigger brakes, better stability, traction etc. etc. etc.

Theres people that think, hay!.. I can speed in my 1989 Corrolla.. and its the same thing as doing it in a REX. And its just not the case.. these cars are SO scary at high speeds its a joke!.. You loose control far too easily and its quite hard to re-gain again.

I think "street racing" is a joke and brings a bad taste to modified car scene.

I just know if by some cop on a power trip or some wanna be hard arse "street racer" at the lights, my car happens to get crushed/confiscated.. I think id break down..

thats my 2c

so very very wrong. as everyone has said its gonna cause more problems than it solves, its not the same fine for everyone and imports will be targeted because only people in imports are hoons. farkin wankers. if a cop tries to confiscate my car ill farkin kill the bastard where he stands, and thats a promise.

well let's face it. it's stupid law and i sure a hell hope it doesn't get through. if i was put into that situation i would run. there's the small chance that they havn't seen your plates and let's face it. many skylines won't have a problem out running a skyline. let alone those of us with a gtr.

but that's just creating more danger as you will be going faster trying to run away than you are likely to whilst racing.

stuff it they can have the stripped out shell after it's been "stolen" and stripped. then hey wait all of a sudden i am a few grand richer with many good parts to either put in a new shell or sell off to pay for a better car.

Have a listen to this Car crushing

It was on jjj yesterday. Fast forward to 8:00

Can you give us a run-down?

My audio is rooted..

Im with the above..

Take away my car..

not only am I not going to give it up without a fight..

not only is it UNJUST

not only is it a fine of what your car + mods is worth..

but is the serious Mc Shits your going to have for the next 6 months..

Because i dont think insurance is going to cover this..

I think its too ridiculous for it to be passed..

Ok lets look at it from another angle.

Jimmy the street racer like most spends most of his $$ on his car one day he drifts around a street corner and spots a cop car videoing him and take after him, now he know that he will loose his licence and have his car crushed so he now has two choices:-

1-Pull over and have the keys over

2-Run and possibly loose the cops and put his car into hiding strip it and not loose the everything he has spent on his car.

It seems to me that the law would only create more high speed chases with drivers who have nothing too loose

Am i the only one which thinks the goverment seems to be edging closer and closer to Totalitarianism??

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
