Hey guys,

I'm after some advice.

I'm thinking of selling my 2005 V35 auto to buy a 2004 manual.

Am i nuts?

Pro's

2004 has Brembo

2004 has leather

2004 has sunroof

2004 Black

2004 Nismo suspension

2004 Grade 4.5 car

Cons

my 2005 nicer interior

my 2005 newer model

my 2005 sat/tv screen, the 2004 i want doesn't have one

my 2005 has 7000 less km

my 2005 grade 5A car

The buyer interested in my car is a much older guy, sounds in his late 40's, so is not interetsed in any of the mods I have, which means I can take them off and put them on the 2004.

Price wise, the cars will cost the same, but I will need to pay rego, onroads etc for the 2004.

I'm just not satissfied with an auto, and it's the only thing i regret on my car. Everytime I get happy with having an auto, I see something to do with a track day and want a manual.

I'm also considering some immaculate series 3 R33 GTR's, but after having a V35 I don't think I can go to an "older" looking/feeling car. Even if it is a GTR.

Would you do it?

i wouldn't do it but its up to you

personally i love gadgets/options on a car and couldn't live without hte sat nav screen etc

but you don't have leather now? that is a must..

personally i think it you're going to track a car then a V35 is a bit of a waste of a perfectly good car. you're better off buying an old R32 or S13 and tracking that and ruining it rather than ruining a V35 at the track

its up to you but that's my opinion

Hey Waz,

Thanks for opinion, thats exactly what i'm after. Keep em coming :-)

As for the track days, I'd probably do 2 or so a year, and I'm not someone who would kill a car. So I'm not concerned that I'd be ruining the car, as i look after my cars quite a bit.

The other thing that has me thinking to do the swap is price.

I think in the long run a black manual with Brembo's and Leather and sunroof, will hold much better value than a silver/blue auto with no Brembo's/leather/sunroof.

Feature wise, the only thing my 2005 has over the 2004 is the screen.

the sunroof and leather is nice

the brembos are not so

the interior on the 05 i havn't seen

blue/silver ok

black is nicer

dvd/sat nav who cares-you could put in your own solution for the same $$ as a converted one

what size rims do they have?

hmm ok so you definately don't have leather atm.. that's a big loss

sunroof is a big gain, but only if you're short and can tolerate the loss of headroom

again, the series 2 blue/silver colour isn't the greatest and black is rare

i candefinately see the advantages of the one you're looking at, its really up to you i think

but remember even 1 track day can destroy a motor its up to luck really. driving flat-out for >20mins non-stop is never going to be good for an engine/gearbox

Thanks cookie,

The 04 comes with the standard 18's, I currently have 17's.

But i have 19" Volk SF Challenge wheels which should arrive from Japan in the next few weeks, so either car will get these wheels and the current set would be spare.

The interiors are quite similar but in my opionion the 05 dash is much nicer.

The guys who's buying my car sounds quite keen so I might just let him make my mind up for me.

If it sells for what i want, then it's a black manual for me, if not I'll be loving my 2005 auto instead.

Can't really loose :-)

I'd wait a lil while for V36 compliance

Any idea when funky?

I was actually thinking about that.

Selling the V35 and stashing the money for the V36, but I don't think I can wait till they start getting here.

Especially if it's more than a few months.

yeah shan.. the big question is when will the V36 be coming here?

i'll be selling my V35 the day the V36 becomes available...

That's 2 of us Waz.

As they only went on sale in Oct, i think we're looking at around 2009 before we see one here.

Hi Guys, the V36 can only complianced 18 months after its release to the JDM add another 6 months or so for a workshop to get the RAWS approval and your looking at least 2 years away. I'd guess the prices wouldn't be too cheap when they first land here as well. I got this info from a compliancing place when I asked about bringing in a V36

Cheers

there's no requirement for it to be 18 months old, but the process of collating compliance evidence and convincing DOTARS is the tricky bit. I've been told end of next year

maybe get a V35 manual in the meantime.

unless you're willing to spend to have the sat/nav converted, i don't see why it's such a big deal compared to one that doesn't have one. personally, i only use it when i'm reversing. black is great but a bit harder to maintain as scratches will easily show. i think having an all-leather interior will always look better compared to the updated dash of the '05. from what i can tell, the main difference really is in the auto - the shifter looks really different, but this is not going to be an issue for the manual.

sunroof is great too but how often will you be using it?

i guess the question is how badly do you want a manual? have you driven one and compared it to your auto? for me, i'll go for the manual any time especially w/ a coupe. best way to choose is to park them side by side if you can. i'm sure you'll make up your mind right away.

cheers,

rob

Rob, your reading my mind. And your absolutely correct in that really the only reason I am thinking of the swap is the transmission. I've never been a fan of auto's and it's the first auto I've bought in 16 yrs. But thought it would be better cause i sit in traffic for around 2 hrs per day.

BUT, traffic or no traffic, i see these cars as sports cars, and i really don't think the auto does them justice.

Thanks for the opinion.

Cheers

Bobby

Well, the decision was made for me. The gentleman looking at the car fell in love with it instantly and has put a deposit down. He's a doctor at some research facility, and didn't hesitate.

Just like every other time I agreed to sell it (3 times now ) I've got mixed feelings again :-)

But, I've just agreed to buy this puppy which if all goes well I should have in my hands late next week.

Of course it's a manual, has Brembo's, leather, sunroof, owner says cruise control (haven't seen it in the pics), 18's, Nismo factory upgraded suspension, and an aftermarket exhaust.

My Volk SF Challenge should be here early December so can't wait to get them on as well.

if it's got cruise then its aftermarket.. only factory cruise was the active cruise and i think it was only on sedans. there's a big IR sender/reciever on the front grill on those (see attached picture)

EDIT: not sure who's car that is - sorry if its yours i'll happily remove it

Yep, that what's I thought. I've got some close up pics of the interior and can't seem to see anything that stands out as being cruise control. Guess I'll see when I get up to have a look at it.

Cheers

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
