Dumb Stuff You Just Shouldn't See On The Road!

Recommended Posts

Like the title says..!

I saw what i think was a 450sl Merc.. (or what ever the heck they are) dark grey, lowered, HUGE rims, black tint (like spray paint lol), and a MASSIVE FMIC!

what the? the front mount was just toooooo much I think! Later Mercs and performance arnt really things that go together.

I also saw a Saab 9000i convertable with a similar mods.. The main mod that stood out was the FMIC!

I heard a what i swear was a 13b turbo in a combi yesterday! that made me look about 15 times before my poor little brain could put it all together!

Have we run out of VL's and Sylvia's?

Have you other guys seen this type of trend to mod unusual or totally odd cars with bits that shouldn't fit?

I really like a different kinda car, don't get me wrong.. but a Saab?

Haha, there are a few fast mercs getting about hey, sleeper effect, with a bit of style, who is going to pull over a 230d merc or whatever they are.

The Saabs were turbo stock and quite fast and resonably well built cars, so once again, why not? Who is going to pull it over. I mean they are like a volvo, just the owner is more likely to be a lawyer or doctor, so the cops will leave them alone.

And you sure it was a 13b turbo in the kombi? Cause there is one kicking about with a 20b in it.

yea it had boost but not the snarl of a 20B! had to be a 13B! didn't think the old dak dak coger would cope with the massive HP increase!

as for the other odd bods.. driven a saab 9000i, wasn't a power house.. did go allright though.. but its a SAAB!

My mate had a Big Block chev in a Volvo.. never, ever got pulled up in it! But man, we never got the chicks either! lol

i totally get the hole VIP ride idea.. considered it myself.. but a newer merc with a blinged up FMIC is just a bit too much!

you know what i'm saying.. BMW, Alfa or even a renault.. with FMIC would 'almost' look cool.

its like putting a GT3540R on an ET pulstart.. sometings are just not ment to be.. yea!

Not meant to be, but shocks you when it does. Which is the whole point. As you say tho, dont make it right!

might be tough..

but that still doesn't make it right....!

or at all sane!

hmm.. grab ya flower loving uncles old dak dak of yester-year that is dieing not so gracefully in the back yard.. repaint it and..

I got an idea.. I'll stuff the 13B turbo engine outta my older brothers RX7 that he wrote off last year, into the old dak dak.

now thats a great idea...?

WHAT THE? you all gone mad? Did none of you read the book about sane mods for cars? You might as well stuff a 351 clevland into a VL c'dore!

ohh a got a better one.. how about a Jag V12 into a datto 1200 ute! Then add a 671 B&M supercharger and just for giggles a 250hp snot of NOS! yea.. that MAY go hard.. but still does not make it a sane idea..

But you sure are right about one thing.. it sure is a different idea!

WRX motor I have seen.. and it makes sence to me.. but not a 13B turbo.

whatever floats you boat I guess!

i think its all about being unique these days. With almost everyone driving skylines around I think we all better start thinking about uniqueness!

haha..theres a kombi in upper coomera or somewhere round there, its sprayed matt black all over ay and it has a very loud and rich running rotory rofl it f**ken smashed my car :nyaanyaa: :nyaanyaa: very cool imo to watch.. i was impressed :X

Yeah, from memory thats the 20b one?

Also from memory its because they bolt up fairly easy, just the way the gearboxes are or something.

I guess we could start saying then, whats the point in cars? Bikes are faster, smaller, cause less congestion, are cheaper to buy and cheaper on fuel and rego.

I used to work in sweden for a short time, Done up volvos are getting around there making some serious power figures.those later ones dont look too bad with decent paint and rims.I can remember watching the EURO touring car championship a few years ago when a volvo wagon was demolishing M3s on the tracks over there..crazy stuff

what the hell is wrong with some of u guys. fmic's on mercedies...oh no :)

it is called progress, if no one pushed the boudaries, no one would develop new concepts.

i remember ages ago a silvia with a rb26dett was considered 'crazy' now it is the norm.

really are u angry at these concepts?!?!?

I love weird shit like that...

besides the obvious huge turbod cars, I have seen a turbocharged 250cc motorbike, a WRX engine in a dune buggy, a 20b in a cosworth (for sale on this forum)...

Probably some other shit too that I can't remember...

Any of the rotary/TA45 transplants into a tiny old Datto/Mazda is pretty insane (I wouldn't call it dumb, just crazy lol), there are plenty around but there's one in particular I remember, 560rwkw or something in an R100... at the track it'll annihilate pretty much anything in a straight line, but over 200 I'm told it gets a bit scary and unstable. It still handles like a 30+ year old chassis. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want one though lol

Have also seen a Hayabusa with a bigger turbo than you see on most cars, apparently had 400-odd rwkw and it didn't seem unreasonable!

Oh and I'd also really like to put a V8 in my old Cressida

    • Thanks for that, I'll check it all out. I can always do the brakes last anyway if its a problem.  The 16's are super cool, if they do fit I'll cruise around with them for a bit.
    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.
    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
    • I forgot about my shiny new plates!
    • Well, apparently they do fit, however this wont be a problem if not because the car will be stationary while i do the suspension work. I was just going to use the 16's to roll the old girl around if I needed to. I just need to get the E90 back on the road first. Yes! I'm a believer! 🙌 So, I contacted them because the site kinda sucks and I was really confused about what I'd need. They put together a package for me and because I was spraying all the seat surfaces and not doing spot fixes I decided not to send them a headrest to colour match, I just used their colour on file (and it was spot on).  I got some heavy duty cleaner, 1L of colour, a small bottle of dye hardener and a small bottle of the dye top coat. I also got a spray gun as I needed a larger nozzle than the gun I had and it was only $40 extra. From memory the total was ~$450 ish. Its not cheap but the result is awesome. They did add repair bits and pieces to the quote originally and the cost came down significantly when I said I didn't need any repair products. I did it over a weekend. The only issues I had were my own; I forgot to mix the hardener into the dye two coats but I had enough dye for 2 more coats with the hardener. I also just used up all the dye because why not and i rushed the last coat which gave me some runs. Thankfully the runs are under the headrests. The gun pattern wasn't great, very round and would have been better if it was a line. It made it a little tricky to get consistent coverage and I think having done the extra coats probably helped conceal any coverage issues. I contacted them again a few months later so I could get our X5 done (who the f**k thought white leather was a good idea for a family car?!) and they said they had some training to do in Sydney and I could get a reduced rate on the leather fix in the X5 if I let them demo their product on our car. So I agreed. When I took Bec in the E39 to pick it up, I showed them the job I'd done in my car and they were all (students included) really impressed. Note that they said the runs I created could be fixed easily at the time with a brush or an air compressor gun. So, now with the two cars done I can absolutely recommend Colourlock.  I'll take pics of both interiors and create a new thread.
