Well if you know anyone in the mining industry in WA and after a toolmaker/fitter/machinist Im more then happy to come over and bring my ride with me. After Christmas I'm going to start applying hopefully I can find something fairly soon. mind you even if a toolmaking job in the big smoke paid enough money I would head over.

The only thing that sucks your housing is really expensive in comparison to SA.

are there heaps of other imports over there now? when I went over 4 years ago I would of only seen a couple of 33s and silivas, but heaps of some toyota sedan I have never seen in SA :S

Could've told me ur a toolmaker we've been looking for one for ages here!! Ended up with another indian!

I should of aye..

Currently where I am now they have me setting/operating some bullshit machines for production cos in their infinite wisdom got rid of most of their setters and im naturally dieing to get back into a toolroom.

Right now the mines seem so enticing though cos of all the money and wanting to get set-up and buy a house and a project car like another DR or a Treuno that I can rebuild so i can learn how it all works.

You working in the plastics industry to?? Where abouts???

Was in plastics for the first 2 years of my apprenticeship (Trident tooling for the 1st, then NTS the 2nd), last 2 I have been working on press metal dies @ Clipsal, but now the last few months they have me setting/operating to fill in the gaps left by people they got rid of.

Everything for my Apprenticeship has just been signed off with GTS in the last couple of weeks, just waiting for clipsal to pull their thumb out to put me on a tradesman before my official time finishes at the end of the year.

hopefully not having years and years of experience will make it much harder getting elsewhere sooner rather then later

where abouts are you working by the way?

30% on arvo's?? Ur kiddin right?? We're only on 15% loading here, 30% on nightshift, and that you can jam!! Nightshift sucks the bollocks!

We deffinately need more DR's in Perth, along with mine I believe there are only about 4 other road going versions. Have tried to get a difinitive number but everyone seems to be hiding their DR30's over here. Mines an 83 RSX (originally) non-intercooled now running GT30, forgies, cams etc and with only 68000k's on the clock. I paid $14000 for it tho.

Do you have any pics of yours anywhere?

Yeh there are a few pics of it on here in the classic Skylines piccy section. And yeh I was happy with the price with all the mods it has plus the overall condition, snapped it it when I had the chance :P

  • 1 month later...
Josh/Shane have either of you guys spotted my DR since Sam sold it? I havent seen it anywhere or any pics on the net, I've nfi where it went. I'd kind of like to get another one at some point...

Nah mate aint seen nor heard nothing!

Nope haven't seen it, saw a white one getting defected down south a couple of months ago but didn't have a front bar or anything like that. I have also been looking into getting another stocker to get around in, instead of my silvia poo mobile. My mate landed a minter which he ended up selling for $4500 un-complied, I was spewing I couldn't come up with the cash in time.

Dam thats pretty cheap for a mint one!

where did your mate import it from? also how much to comply one atm tossing up between another dr30 but a sedan for a daily, a C10 with a GT-R kit or 32 gt-r

yer was thinkin about gettin another one as well but just to much hassle i rekon, getting to old now to use as a daily, might get myself a 33 or 34 or something like that as a daily...maybe even an xr6t if i can talk the wife into it :P:no:

Funny I should mention this a couple of days ago, my mate rang me at lunch today. The guy that bought it off him needs money fast and wants to off load it, $5000 complied with a freshly rebuilt motor and new clutch. Said I could take it this weekend for $3000 then get the rest to him at a later date. Hmmmmm, the only money I have should really be going on my house, but I'm going to go look at it then make up my mind. But then again I do have a silvia I really should be selling.

This is it while it was still in Japan.

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
