Well, some of ya might know i bought my 200sx from Ertzilla from Melbourne. Tis a wicked car, but the next step is to take it to regency to get new plates. Apparently they have to do an ID check of engine etc.

Hoping they don't go into detail all over the car, as if it's been defected, cause it hasn't. Am goin to take the main defectable things off just incase tho. Boost switch, turbo timer, and pray that it gets through with the loud exhaust, bodykit, airfilter, massive intercooler and 17s.

What's the rule with intercoolers? as long as it's hidden by mesh? cause mine is..can't really see it. As it's only an upgrade, should be ok.

Has anyone had to go through this process of changing plates over? if so, any tips i should know... thanx.

You might be lucky .... when I brought my old 1992 MX6 back from Darwin 2 years ago, all they did was check the vin, engine numbers etc. However they did notice my dark tint (which I had only put on in Darwin about 6 months before :) ) as soon as I drove in, they put a light checker on it and said it was too dark. They made me take it off there and then with a razor blade :D

But other than that they didn't look at the car (it was standard though).

Mind you it was a LOT less conspicious than your sounds, and as we all know, the fuzz (and all their friends), just loooourve picking on anything that is nice or out of the ordinary. Good luck!

Why change the rego? Ring up Vicroads, and get them to send the rego to your SA address.

I had a vic registered car in sydney for one year, moved to WA and then had it there for 2 years.

Never had a problem.

Of course, this is legal isnt it???:) Because after all, you may move back to vic really soon.

pffft regency will go through the car with a fine tooth comb so don't kid yourself

hello my car has been off the road 6 months thanks to them being so picky

I took my car, complete with lots'o'mods, through for a VIS (Vehicle Identity Inspection) & only got knocked back on the MOMO s/wheel, which was actually ADR legal anyway.

However I didn't go to Regency due to the nasty reputation the place has (for good reason!) I went to another inspection station down south. Stuffed if can remember where it was though ;) The place only does/did VIS's not full inspections.

My advice is to avoid Regency if at all possible. You can even have a VIS done via the local police station if you live in an area so many kms from the CBD. Have a read through the TransportSA website. Seek out the loopholes

id cheks only chek id they wont defect unless they are hving there monthly period wich is probably everyday.i took my first car that was a et pulsar that i bought from mel and it was a shit box.....didnt get defected took 5 minutes for id chek....my sileighty had to go for id chek..fully illegal with height adjust...low as a bitch and still nada....but i gotta take my r33 there soon so im prayin itll be alright....might try these loopholes our mate is talkin about send us a pic of ur 200 [email protected] sounds sweet...is it a nismo kit wat colour is it.u shoulda bought a r33 though!!!!

ID checked only? You got lucky.

A guy at work just transferred the rego on his Landrover Discovery, late nineties model. they tried to tell him that the stock spare wheel was obstructing the tail light.

He protested loudly that it is stock, and that there is no where else for the wheel to be fitted, so how was he supposed to carry a spare? He then consulted with a collegue and only then gave it the green light. That was at Regency.

i have just changed vic plate to sa plate 2 weeks ago for my R33. the car has big intercooler w/o mesh, exhoust, boost controller, momo steering wheel, S-afc, rsm, guages, air filter etc and has no problem as the guy only check my vin and engine number. The only thing his not happy about is my car height which was 315mm where legal hieght should be 365. I change the spring for $100 and pass through regency the second visit easily. It was check by an old man :) Dont ever get your car check by the young guy cause he likes to act smart.

Enrico,

VIS is NOT a full roadworthy. It’s supposed to be for identity purposes ONLY.

As fat313 stated above, they look to confirm the VIN, engine, & compliance no's match what is recorded on the national database. They also check the car is legally yours etc.

Of course being Regency they'll be only too happy to pick up ANY unroadworthy item they notice. So if you get a bastard of an inspector lookout! Hence I'd recommend going to the place down south that I went to, if it still exists?

Here we go, have a read of this info from the TransportSA website - http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/registratio...inspections.asp

& here - http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/registratio...egistration.asp

Edit: It looks like the place I took my car through no longer exists :( Bummer. I'd suggest finding a residential address over 40kms from the Adelaide GPO, a family member that lives in a country town with a friendly local cop perhaps? :D

    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.
    • Stop looking at the garage floor, and turn the radio up a bit louder if there's any strange noises...
    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
    • Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, when you say turbo shuffle do you mean turbo flutter "stustustu" or referring to something else? I had thought they were the same thing. When I wrote the post my intention was to say it wasn't a flutter/compression surge sound. My understanding was that a flutter sound would be occurring when throttle is released, whereas I can keep the throttle in the same position for this noise
