Hey Guys

I have just purchased and installed the famed GTRS and it has this loud whistling noise, when at idle and then reving the engine it will whistle through the air filter around 3000rpm onwards, but when you drive the car as you are accelerating it will produce the more whizzing sound (best described as similar to the engine noise sound you get through your speakers) does anyone else have the GTRS with a pod filter fitted that can tell me if theirs makes or doesn't make this noise or if it is normal.

i have tripple checked for air leaks, gasket leaks - and can gurantee it is not the fuel pump.

any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Yes i have a GTRS on my S2 Stagea auto, and when under way when i back off in say 2nd around town, (backing off only a little) and then holding the revs i find i can hold the whistle noise and can produce a rather loud whistle. But under full load it seems to be like any other turbo noise. Infact i reckon it is slightly quieter under load than the last turbo gcg that was on the car.

My HKS GT3037 makes a sweet high pitch whistle just like a jet engine starting up.

The old hybrid was more of a lower whoosh noise.

I will try and video it next time its on the RR from the front to see if I can catch the noise.

Yeah i might try to see if i can get the sound on camera as well,

I get the noise as soon i start accelerating.

Its the anti-surge housing. My GT30R does it too:

Sounds just like mine mate. What was your boost and power?

Done 280rwkw on its last run on a hub dyno at 1bar of boost. Not too surprising it sounds just the same, its basically the same as an HKS GT3037 Pro S ;)

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
