ive been wondering ever since i put my car in to get the whole thing reworked, how do others with highly modied cars, big hp applications, or just a massive top mounted turbo staring out of the engine bay go about driving with the risk of being defected.

aint alot o u guys worried about getting defected and being forced to rip half the engine out to put back into stock standard?

i would especially like to hear from Victorians about this matter.

most people run the risk. i mean realistically like 90% of skylines on here would be deemed defectable.

if it worries you then maybe you shouldnt try sell all the stock 34 stuff advertised in your sig. you never know if your going to need it.. all mines sitting in the corner of my garage.

what the hell is 'spooling' is this VL talk?

my car only 'spools' the turbo when I am accelerating... and it accelerates when i boot it. weird.

buddy learn a few diferent lingo's. expand you vocab.

if you dont have something constructive to say dont say anything :)

With your kitted, sub pumping, custom plate wearing black R34 on P plates you will cop it HARD.

I had all of the above in my S15 with P plates, and got defect after defect, its not fun at all.

The things i found to make a differnce are in this order:

1. P plates, these are like red rags to a bull, I have had police admit that they pull over modified p platers above all else.

2. Noise, the less you make the better (exhaust, system, ect)

3. When/where you drive, Chapel, Knox FTL!

4. How you drive.

Nick

dude you got the best avatar....I cant stop starin...it hypnotises...Man I miss those..

*Knocks on Wood...*,

I've had 2 skylines and only pulled over 3 times (twice my fault being a d*ckhead and once at an RBT)

usual bolt on mods but I had my intercooler piping and pod shielding painted black for a reason.

But generally I find not driving around like an @sshole will draw the least amount of attention, my car came with a HKS SSQV already fitted and cops leave me alone when I'm driving. I even give them a polite nod when I'm feeling game :domokun:

Get off my Green P's in Feb... can't wait!

good topic.

but i would like to know how the SUPER HIGH FINISHED MODIFIED cars do.

im talking about the $200,000 to $300,000 cars that we see on tv/mags.

how do they get around town. i see them getting around in ignition, constantly flooring it etc, and getting no attention.

and these cars have anywhere from 800hp-1200hp

<---------like the supra in my avatar, how does a car like that aviod cops, whilst still cruising and enjoying what it was built for???

anyone know how they get away with it all?

thats exactly what i wanna know. how do therse 800hp beasts get around town. i know alot of GTRs who run ungraded TTs in the stock position are very easy. keeping the air filter still in place helps the illusion that its all still stock. it dosnt take much to modify a rb26 for insane power. Supras aswell.

but all in all very good tips buddy.

unfortunately the way my car looks i dont think i have much of a chance. the red Ps aint to bad because of the bandly tinted windows on the rear. cops never even realise it is a P plater until they see my licence.

its not illegal to have a topmount turbo, ive been able to get away with cooler/pod explaining that ahem ahem "GTR"s have coolers stock (ahaha i no i no)

my boost controller is hidden very very well. my screamer pipe is boxed up from the engine bay with a custom carbon fibre box which also wraps around my abs unit. and i dont have a HC for my PFC inside my car. althouhg ive just mounted 2 guages on the A Piller.

the one GOOD thing with my car was that it had suspension as high as SUVs. but since i bouhgt new wheels and actually lowered the car. im worried even more now lol.

what are the most common defects issued these days? ill list mine

GT Wing

To Low

To Loud

Boost Controller

Guages

Cooler/Pod

anything else guys?

Of course its illegal to have a top mount turbo, its illegal to have am aftermarket turbo in general.

f*k me but realli?

i didnt no that lol.

why is it illegal to upgrade turbos?

i understand that bovs are "noise polution" but why turbos

im thinking about going full stealth, black plenum, black cooler pipes, black cooler core and lowmount the turbo (if it fits with the big rb30 block)

Anything that alters your emisions is illegal:

PowerFC

Injectors

Fuel Pumps

Turbo's

i see, im sure fuel puimps and injectors aint a big issure, should be easy to hide.

what about turbos?, only option is low mount?

I would really low mount it, on our old car we had a HKS 2540 covered by the standard heatshield. It went through the EPA and it passed :domokun: (Guy said emissions where a bit high but he let it pass)

Thing is injectors and such are easy to hide, but when it comes to getting a epa test they will tell real quick that something is changed.

would u be able to just put stock injectors back into the car and plug the stoclk ecu back in and still be able to run the aftermarket turbo? just to pass the test not to boost or anything. and after the test just pop everything back in?

nope... your emmisions will be totaly farked, as there's much more air flowing through the turbo.

as for "how do the high powered cars get around car without being defected" questions... simple answer is they don't... they sit in a workshop most of their life and come out once in a blue moon for a show/dyno posing/sponsored hektik event/Track day (get there on a trailer)

most folks who can afford to spend the required amounts will usually have something much more comfortable for cruising...

Why do you want so much power if all you wanna do is cruise? honestly, it seems like a waste. Aim for 250rwkw, it's a lot more fun and useable on the street... as someone said before.. with a big turbo, you'll spend more time getting it to make positive pressure than you will actually enjoying it... and when it comes on, hope u know what u're doing...

lag... lag.... lag..... boost/wheelspin/holy sheet/lolwall

hmmmm 800+ hp= :)

250kw= :laugh:

but atleast it will be 'fun' right mate

dont tell us what to do man. some want HUGE hp machines at 1 stage in our lives

    • Hey crew, Failed my WOF cause of a lower control arm, and I've decided to hit both arms, and also the compression rods at the same time(seems they're gonna be the most likely upcoming failure points from some discussions with the lads over on the G35 reddit). I've looking at these form Z1:  https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-compression-rod-p-40716.html https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-lower-control-arm-p-40674.html I asked Z1 if they'd work as it's the same platform, just RHD vs LHD. I basically got told "Lol dunno". Specifically they aren't aware of any difference but can't guarantee fitment as they haven't done it on a 350GT. So guess I'm asking is if there is any issues with using 2005 G35 coupe suspension parts on a 2005 350GT coupe? Orginally I thought it could be something in the way of the arms that each control arm is designed to be positioned around, but that'd be an engineering nightmare for Nissan needing two different shaped control arms 😅
    • ^ This. The mode door actuator is a common failure, as is the actuator and/or the actual valve for the coolant flow control valve. I also don't know how available the mode door actuator is these days. I've been meaning to look into it and get one from wherever is possible, to keep in the shed for the rainy day when mine eventually fails. Anyway, the advice to you is to search the usual NOS part supply places, or even just go to Nissan and see what they list.
    • Have you got a pic of the actuator? My guess is that unit has failed internally and was flopping around, so the previous engineer who owned it forced it to be fully open to cold air (blocking the heater core path). As far as you can tell, is anything else wrong in the system? Likely you just need a new actuator (not sure how available they are) and then "installation is the reverse of disassembly"
    • I'm happy with the Lsailt unit that I put in, it puts full Android on the top screen so you can run whatever Nav and other Apps you want, while still existing inside the factory functionality like automatic reverse cams, audio input switching, retains factory bluetooth etc. Not cheap and the install was moderate (not simple, not hard) Yours is a V36 not V37 though right?
    • Yeap, all the NC's that I originally looked at that had a hard top were PRHT, which makes the roof line look horrible, hence why I said nope to them My only caveat for another MX5 was it needed to have a hard top, and initially I didn't think you could get a detachable hard top for the NC,  like my NB had Again, a big thanks to Matty for helping me source the detachable hard top for my little girl, they are as rare as hens teeth in Australia, and the few people who have them, keep them Also to Greg, for initially pointing me in the NC direction NC PRHT 🤢🤮 Not mine (I really should take more photos of my car), but a NC with the detachable hard top 😁 To me, the difference in how the detachable hard top roof line looks, and how it actually follows the bodies lines, like they do on NA's and NB's, is chalk and cheese compared to the bulbous looking PRHT
