Need some urgent help, i need some new tyres for my r33 gtr, i got some 9.5"et12 rims and have got good deals on toyo t1r's...in either of the above sizes...if money wasnt an issue which size would you go for, would i have any issues with either one of those?maybe 285's too wide?what would FEEL the best on the street.

Depends on the tyre, different tyres sit differently and one 275 may be wider than another 275.

I agree with Ronin... 265 or 275 on a 9.5" I think a 275 may risk being a bit baggy.

p.s its a 9.5" with a +12 offset - would 275's be ok on these(they are te37's)???, and also is 275's a bit much on the gtr's anyone get tram lining or that sort of thing on the gtrs with 275 wide tyres?its for street driving and hills etc...

I have 18x9 TE37s with 265/35 RE55s. The rim has a heavy bead and as such the 265s arent as wide as the bead I am paranoid about gutter rash. Go the the 275s. Yes you will get tram lining but it varies with the tyre choice,RE55s are bad for it but you cant beat the traction.

So some people say 265, others say 275??? what are the +/- of both?, more traction on road wider tyre, speedo off, car would feel heavier to turn?, tram lining etc....

whatever tyre i choose should i always go 35 profile (eg 265/35?

If you are going for Toyo T1R , there isn't much difference in 265X35X18 and 275X35X18, you can use either of them , 265's are 265mm wide and 275's are 271 mm wide , only 4 mm diff .

275/35ZR18 99Y 8.2 649 271 303 295 315 9.5 505 9.0 - 11.0

265/35ZR18 97Y 8.2 644 267 301 291 313 9.5 508 9.0 - 10.5

From Toyo website .

  • 2 weeks later...
As far as outer diameter goes, 275/35R18 will be closer to the correct outer diameter than 265/35R18.

plz explain outer diameter?

265 would be the go...

i have experience to go with that:P

Circumference of the standard 245/45R17 = 2049mm

Circumference of 275/35R18 = 2041mm - Very close

Circumference on 265/35R18 = 2019mm - Too small

Circumference of 265/40R18 = 2102mm - Too big

good work brad. yes if you want to keep it strict then stick with the closest rolling diameter as stock. end of the day your probably not gonna feel a huge difference between the 265 and 275.

has anyone driven on 18x10.5s and 285 tyres? thats what im looking to get, running re55s or A048s..

Yeah, what do you want to know? feel the same as 265's on 10.5"... sidewall was a bit thin on the 285 compared to 265.. but both are fine.

what size tyres are you running for the front? Cos my rims are 18z9 for the fronts and the rears are 18x10s. Impul M1. Now i find the closest wheel OD ro wither be exactly the same depending on the tyres manufacturer is 235/40/18s and 265/35/18s. Mxxis Z1 and the falkens have the exact OD between these 2 sizes. I dont know about toyos though. Wait a minute is your rims the same size all around or you running staggered?

Not sure if you are talking to me stasis. But I run 18x10.5" front and rear.

ho ferni i was referring to NSTA but damn you are running very big rims for the front. It clears ok when its on full lock?

my experiences

275's on my 18x9.5 +12 TE37s, scrubbed on full lock, tracked down the highway

265's on my 19x10.5 +22 CE28Ns, wider wheel, narrower tyre, I like the stretched look though, so that helped my decision, but now no scrubbing at all, still tracks down the highway......any car with wide tyres like 265+ on the front will do this.

but in all reality its 1cm difference in width which means stuff all for traction......but I'd go 265's if I was you.
