Is the head unit clarion ? Could be compatable with an aftermarket Clarion ?

Either way, if you talk to the right car sound people (not JB), it is highly likely you can keep them working.

I want to install a dvd head unit but would like to keep the remote functional.

There are a few companies that sell units that say there compatible (clarion, pioneer and alpine) but from what I've read it not always a simple install.

I've got a 2002 Stagea 250RS with the Autech AeroSelect modifications.

I notice in a lot of the M35 stagea's that they have a pop-up screen just below the clock display, so I am wondering if there is one hiding behind the Panasonic TR-T70W2 screen in mine? The Screen has english buttons, but the menus are all in Japanese. I sometimes get a fuzzy TV picture, but have never seen any of the fuel economy information or any other useful info like that. I have the Tr-T70w2 manual, and have found some partial translations via Google, but so far haven't found anything that remotely looks like on-board technical data.

Is it possible that this screen isn't connected to the on-board stuff at all?

The Sat nav is a panasonic CN-DV2200, but with no DVD, and from what I can tell, it sounds like the Sat Nav isn't worth a can of beans.

Anyway, I've attached a photo of the dash.

It looks like your car did not come with the Factory optioned, TV/GPS option. Without this option you will not get all the other functions related to Fuel economy, trip computer etc.

If you look around you will find some where a module that is controlling the GPS and TV that you are getting. If you have the factory TV tuner it will be behind the passenger side rear kick panel in the boot.

It would be easier with your set up to see if you can plug in another TV tuner or GPS module to get these features if this is what you are after.

Thanks for the prompt response Andy. I too was wondering why they would install the panasonic stuff if the cars were made with TV/GPS, but as you say if it was an option this can didn't come with that would make a lot more sense.

I'm not fussed with watching TV in the car, but thought it would be good to figure out milage and trip computer stuff.

I'll have a look behind the kick panel on the weekend, but suspect that it will be a Japanese, not good for NZ!

I might have to take it to an auto electrician in Hamilton and see what they can find out about the existing system.

My AR-X, which I am collecting next week, is equiped with a Panasonic CN-DV150D TV/Sat-Nav, so this was part of my homework.. I reckon I might be able to plug a iPod video into the AV input on this thing, whilst pushing the audio out to the OEM audio through one of the USDM solutions..

it can be done easily. the OEM control units rely on a translation box. they are NOT plug and go. I have done several now and its definitely doable.

in regard to the last post - most of those have a AV in so if you can get to one of those input and your source plays NTSC video then you have got it sussed.

failing that pull the lot out and replace the pocket.
