Niki Lauda calls it 'the worst decision in F1's history', Big call- but he's been around the sport for a looong time now.

Yeah, well, hes an idiot who doesnt know what hes talking about, yeah?

I mean what would he know?

I LOLed when i read all this.

There is a sense of humour in F1 after all:

Stewards To Review Other Results

Thursday 11th September 2008

Following their great success at re-arranging the result of the 2008 Belgian Grand Prix, the race stewards are now turning their attention to other sporting events that have finished. Outraged sports writers from the world's news media have slammed them for having no experience in judging football or athletics or swimming, but now the stewards have hit back. They have rightly pointed out that they have just as much knowledge of floor gymnastics and athletics as they have of F1

Notices of Re-Classification

Olympic 100 metres

The Olympic 100 metres final has been reviewed by the stewards and Usain Bolt has had 25 seconds added to his time. The stewards verdict was that Bolt... "didn't run across the line properly and started celebrating way too early".

Tour de France

Carlos Sastre has hung on to his position as winner of the Tour de France, but second-place man Cadel Evans from Australia has seen his second place wiped out.

"Evans is just a back wheel sucker," said Belgian steward Yves Bacquelain, "he never does any of the work on a climb." As Bacquelain is the same nationality as the great Eddie Merckx his decision cannot be overturned.

Swimming

Michael Phelps has seen his Beijing medal haul cut from eight to seven after the stewards decided to hand the win of the 100m butterfly to Milo Cavic. Apparently second-placed man Cavic was almost there first and morally was the winner.

Gymnastics - Beam

Less controversial is the stewards' ruling that American gymnasts Natia Liukin and Shawn Johnson should swap positions in the Beam event at Beijing. Liukin drew huge praise for her artistic performance on the apparatus but lost out to a more complex, but artistically clunky routine from American rival Johnson. "We have decided that Nastia should get the gold because she is a much fitter than Shawn Johnson," said Nicolas Deschaux

Champions League Final

Chelsea are the new champions of Europe after winning the recalculated penalty shoot-out in Moscow. The stewards decided that Manchester United's narrow victory by 6-5 wasn't correct. They have allowed John Terry's missed penalty to count. "We feel that he would have scored if he hadn't lost his footing on a poorly prepared pitch, which was out of his control and so award him the penalty." Chelsea now win 5-4.

( Especially this one, lol )

F1

And finally, Jenson Button and Nick Heidfeld will both have 10-place grid deductions for the Italian Grand Prix after the Kenyan steward discovered they both had beards as scruffy as Sebastien Loeb's.

Seems most drivers are standing by the stewards on this one..

As much as I think LH wasnt in the wrong, for me thats not the ultimate point.

Its clear now the paddock is heavily split - on LH's side i would wager and that speaks volumes. I cant remember the last time this has happened...well, perhaps for MS at Monaco but that was years ago.

If all things were taken into consideration, the would be no loss of a win. Instead a fine would have been more appropriate in light of the fact KR dropped it and Massa was really never in serious contention.

All this could have been avoided is the appropriate penalty was applied.

What a fine? Where is he precedenet of the FIA issuing fines for infringements that affect the outcome of a race?

Thats right. A fine. Why do i have to keep repeating myself with you?

What about the precedent of the FIA fixing races as if it were a cheap two-bit WWF wrestling match?

There were people who did not want LH to win.

Rather, these people wanted FM, to be up on wins 5-4 against LH.

2 points behind.

Infront of the tifosi.

In a Ferrari

At Monza!

That suits the script much better.

Youre a fool if you think that isnt happening.

There are millions more people that will tune in to Monza because of all the bullshit that went on last weekend.

My question to you Roy, is simple.

What will the effect of millions more people tuning in be and who will it benefit?

It was a simple question. Where is the precedent for a fine for driving infringemetns that influence the outcome of a race? FIA have been pretty consistant at issuing a drive thru for such acts.

What you pose is if i was to kill my neighbour ten minutes before winning lotto, i shouldnt go to jail because i now have more to lose. But wait, the autopsy just revealed the guy was going to die of a serious illness within a day or so anyway, so because i have just had a big win with lotto and have more to lose then the the rest of the guys in the street....i should just pay a fine?

Lol, a bit of an extreme analogy but i can see where youre coming from.

Have we not already established the punishment did not fit the crime?

Even the great majority of people in the paddock including the drivers agreed.

rain... really?

it hasnt rained at monza since... well... it hasnt rained at monza

Yeah and the best part is the stewards cant control the weather.

LH and KR will be in their elements...FM will flounder if the forecast is correct.

By the way, even if a fine was too "lenient", taking into account we agree LH deserved a penalty at all, a grid demotion for Monza would be the next option.

That way we could all witness LH carving the field up in the wet.

Noone doubts his wet weather ability.

I am all for a more equitable solution. But what is it? I cant see how a fine does the job. If the precedent is set for a fine then watch out when drivers start cutting chicanes, gain track position to have a dive at the next corner not concerned about the $10,000 fine.

Plus, fining McLaren would introduce another type of precedent for this sort of penalty. The point is, the FIA applied the std penalty for the offence he was deemed to have committed. What you suggest introduces another level of subjectivity, surely not a good thing. Black / white, means penalty A or B works best.

A starting grid penalty, isnt that the domain for driving infringements during practice, qualifying and engines etc?

See theres the thing! More drivers taking risks, having a go. Bloody oath. Lessen the penalty and we, the fans, will benefit massively from an huge increase in racing.

I love the idea.

Roy, there are already way too many regulations in place. I think the noose needs to be loosened so we can enjoy the sport more, drivers too.

Do you think those are the only times a penalty like that should apply or would you like to see the faster drivers coming through the field?

Mixing up the grid would help many things.

Stripping a race away from a driver after everyone has gone home helps no one.

Besides, the camp is split anyway as to whether or not LH did commit anything.

Subjectivity at its best.

Then we have the precedent of what happened after...

Horrible all round.

Noone can agree on the crime plus the penalty was massively unfair.

Yeah, but what the hell would a bunch of F1 drivers know....Nothing, just ask Adam.

The first line quoted is absolutely idiotic.

The appropriate penalty for gaining an advantage was applied. The fact that it cost LH a win is his bad luck.

Thats right. A fine. Why do i have to keep repeating myself with you?

Because you keep making ridiculous arguments.

As for your replies in bold to Troy's post, you have just finished saying that you believe the FIA are manipulating things to make it more of a spectacle for the fans, yet you want them to change the way penalties are applied so that we can watch faster cars having to make their way through the field...So it's ok for them to manipulate races as long as it suits you?

Yeah i dont really care so much if we dont agree.

So you dont think the FIA have manipulating anything? :)

The very least they could do is modify the rules to keep that thing we tune in to week after week consistent - the action - not the conspiracies.

What point is there in strangling a guy for making a wicked move to take the lead? Are you not the same guy who was bitching in the past about there being no overtaking in F1 any more?

You should run for PM, Dezz.

    • Next on the to-do list was an oil and filter change. Nothing exciting to add here except the oil filter is in a really stupid place (facing the engine mount/subframe/steering rack). GReddy do a relocation kit which puts it towards the gearbox, I would have preferred towards the front but there's obviously a lot more stuff there. Something I'll have to look at for the next service perhaps. First time using Valvoline oil, although I can't see it being any different to most other brands Nice... The oil filter location... At least the subframe wont rust any time soon I picked up a genuine fuel filter, this is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Access can be found underneath the rear seat, you'll see this triangular cover Remove the 3x plastic 10mm nuts and lift the cover up, pushing the rubber grommet through The yellow fuel line clips push out in opposite directions, remove these completely. The two moulded fuel lines can now pull upwards to disconnect, along with the wire electrical plug. There's 8x 8mm bolts that secure the black retaining ring. The fuel pump assembly is now ready to lift out. Be mindful of the fuel hose on the side, the hose clamp on mine was catching the hose preventing it from lifting up The fuel pump/filter has an upper and lower section held on by 4 pressure clips. These did take a little bit of force, it sounded like the plastic tabs were going to break but they didn't (don't worry!) The lower section helps mount the fuel pump, there's a circular rubber gasket/grommet/seal thing on the bottom where the sock is. Undo the hose clip on the short fuel hose on the side to disconnect it from the 3 way distribution pipe to be able to lift the upper half away. Don't forget to unplug the fuel pump too! There's a few rubber O rings that will need transferring to the new filter housing, I show these in the video at the bottom of this write up. Reassembly is the reverse Here's a photo of the new filter installed, you'll be able to see where the tabs are more clearing against the yellow OEM plastic Once the assembly is re-installed, I turned the engine over a few times to help build up fuel pressure. I did panic when the car stopped turning over but I could hear the fuel pump making a noise. It eventually started and has been fine since. Found my 'lucky' coin underneath the rear seat too The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44&t=6s
    • It was picked up on the MOT/Inspection that the offside front wheel bearing had excessive play along with the ball joint. It made sense to do both sides so I sourced a pair of spare IS200 hubs to do the swap. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the strip down but here's a quick run down. On the back of the hub is a large circular dust cover, using a flat head screw driver and a mallet I prised it off. Underneath will reveal a 32mm hub nut (impact gun recommended). With the hub nut removed the ABS ring can be removed (I ended up using a magnetic pick up tool to help). Next up is to remove the stub axle, this was a little trickier due to limited tools. I tried a 3 leg puller but the gap between the hub and stub axle wasn't enough for the legs to get in and under. Next option was a lump hammer and someone pulling the stub axle at the same time. After a few heavy hits it released. The lower bearing race had seized itself onto the stub axle, which was fine because I was replacing them anyway. With the upper bearing race removed and the grease cleaned off they looked like this The left one looked pristine inside but gave us the most trouble. The right one had some surface rust but came apart in a single hit, figure that out?! I got a local garage to press the new wheel bearings in, reassemble was the opposite and didn't take long at all. Removing the hub itself was simple. Starting with removing the brake caliper, 2x 14mm bolts for the caliper slider and 2x 19mm? for the carrier > hub bolts. I used a cable tie to secure the caliper to the upper arm so it was out of the way, there's a 10mm bolt securing the ABS sensor on. With the brake disc removed from the hub next are the three castle nuts for the upper and lower ball joints and track rod end. Two of these had their own R clip and one split pin. A few hits with the hammer and they're released (I left the castle nuts on by a couple of turns), the track rod ends gave me the most grief and I may have nipped the boots (oops). Fitting is the reversal and is very quick and easy to do. The lower ball joints are held onto the hub by 2x 17mm bolts. The castle nut did increase in socket size to 22mm from memory (this may vary from supplier) The two front tyres weren't in great condition, so I had those replaced with some budget tyres for the time being. I'll be replacing the wheels and tyres in the future, this was to get me on the road without the worry of the police hassling me.
    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
