ahaha 2000 credits doesnt look right to me more like 4000 i think

Dan hows your WRX going? Done many mods to it?

I was never really interested in HP figures..... More interested in 1/4 mile times. Thats how i judged a "fast" car. Some people say 1/4mile is crap coz it doesnt prove any handling etc....which is true but, if you race someone at the lights, handling doesnt matter too much either..... you dont often have proper "street races" around corners etc.

My mates 180sx should be back on the road this weekend, and should be good for 300rwhp, which sounds good, but who knows what that will be like on the 1/4mile.... should be mid 12s at least though.

Anyways this is one of the reasons i got rid of my 33 GTST, and am currently hunting for a 89 GTR to import. I know there will be a lot next year, but I still wanna own a car that does easy 12s with basic mods

Ben

WRX is going great.

I have bought a new ecu and turbo... and a few other bits and pieces which will all be getting put on and tuned at West Racing as soon as i get my tax money.....

Guys, and in no way am I having a dig.. its just a observation

I dont understand your infatuation with dyno hp figures... in the sceme of things it really means fark all when comparing to other peoples figures.

I personally would consider any car running 12's or below to be a quick street car.  So unless your building a dyno queen, i would start looking at other areas to increase the cars OVERALL PERFORMANCE, such as suspension, tires, etc.....

Im seeing guys with 300+ hp and still not cracking into the 12's.  Why would this be?

This was the main reason I sold my car, because after all the fancy Apexi, HKS, etc stuff I put on there I still wasnt that impressed.....

Please guys,  I am not bagging skylines (I still have a soft spot for them), I am just trying to determine why people keep making bulk engine mods for hp and the car is still not that quick.

Should we be moving our attention away from the motor and into other areas......

Please comment guys, I would like some serious comments and debate... NO mud sligging or bagging.....

Daniel

Dan you've just spent major coin and bought a new ecu and turbo, had you bought a new ecu and turbo for your r33 I reckon you'd have got better value for money in terms of top end power and speed. the only advantage a wrx has over a r33 is the 4wd which only helps the launch, I guess that would make it a fast car in your book cos it would get down the 1/4 quicker.... *shrug* I would have hung onto the r33 more fun

hahahha... Rob I really dont want to get into want is quicker and what is better.. because you wont like my answer.

If you want me to compare... well in terms of bolt on mods and performance for return... sorry pal rex wins hands down.

with :

new turbo 1200 (bolt on)

new ecu 1000 (i picked up a second hand LINK with hand controller for that much)

turbo back exhaust 1500

whiteline suspension gear 500

TOTAL = $4200

You have a car that will run 12.7 to 12.9 consistantly at the plex, and will out handle and monover a gtst any day of the week.

My r33 had twice that spent on it and wasnt even close in handling or straight line speed.

Sorry Rob just my observation.

Daniel

Once again guys

Im not saying that WRx is better than skyline, I was just stating my opinion asI have had both cars, and wanted to answer Robs question honestly.

Daniel

You cant compare Denver to stardard driver..

he uses his car for all sorts of special events and the like. that kind of torchure would deem any gearbox useless.. hahaha

Im not saying the gearbox is bulletproof, far from it its the cars biggest weak spot.. but clutch is fine, no different to skyline, i cooked two on the skyline, and im still on my stardard one with my rex....

Daniel

pretty cheap turbo?

mnay rex's seem to abe able to do the same times with that mod formula, whereas the r33's times vary wildly with the same mods. does the awd take skill out of the equation when chasing good times?

the rwd of skylines is a heap more fun i think having driven both, but not in the wet where it becomes a touch hairy. the rex's also have awesome stability at speed, which is hard to go past.

oh and yes imacul8 is right about bang for buck. i have yet to see an r33 gts-t do something impressive yet for a cheap price. I have on the other hand seen many R32's and R31's go quick on a limited budget.. and those are from guys who have thought out the mods alot more than others imho.. even ls-1 guys(yeh im biased har har) have gotten good results for sfa

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
