ellie
I went for a spirited drive up into the mountains and i checked my powerFC to see that my coolant temp was at 100 degrees and I can only imagine what temps my oil was at! And by spirited driving I mean, mostly driving normally with a few quick spurts every so often. Now it was about 30 ambient and very muggy but this concerned me a little because at any other time driving around normally temps sit between 80-89 on hot days (QLD weather) and I was just curious to compare with others as to what temps they get when pushing thier cars and what's the natural progression to combat this? I work on european cars that run around normally on 110 dgrees all day for maximum efficiences but I'm unsure of what is normal for jap imports? Any info would be most appreciated. . . . . Mark_McQ
That does sound a bit too high. Mine sits about 80 in normal use, and during a track day in August it never went above 90. ellie
That is the concern? I really want to know, if i'm in danger of overheating the motor? paulr33
80deg is ideal the ecu will start to retard the timing if it gets too high 100deg could indicate cooling problems - check radiator, flush it, check water pump Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200356-coolant-temps-on-rb20det/#findComment-3565259 Share on other sites

R34GTFOUR
sounds like a blocked radiator if you only had a few blurts, if you were on a race track with continous abuse i would say you need a bigger/more effiecent radiator. 666DAN
80 would be a worry, the R34's open the thermostat at 82 and are full open at 95....80 would mean somethings up as well Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200356-coolant-temps-on-rb20det/#findComment-3866616 Share on other sites
Ruffels
100 isnt all that bad, i asume your running an anti freeze/boil coolant mixture? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200356-coolant-temps-on-rb20det/#findComment-3866702 Share on other sites
