gloves, seriously?... my wife wears gloves at the gym...

only time I've really ever considered them is for deadlifts... getting up around 140kg now and I struggle to hold onto the bar... but then again I am a giant pussy

does anyone use straps for deadlifts? I feel like my hands are holding me back there now

Serious man? I'm on my 3rd pair after like 8 years of training. I buy the cheapest Harbingers too

Are they tight or loose when you wear them? Gym gloves should be fairly loose...I see alot of people at my gym with snug fitting gloves and IMO this restricts movement and breathing. You can hold a pair of sponges and use them for grip, so gloves certainly don't need to be tight.

Yeah dead set. You know where the tags are on the inside, they seem to come loose there. Perhaps they are too tight, dunno. Wouldn't buy them again though.

Yeah seriously, might not be as important for guys who work with their hands like tradies etc. I work in IT and I'll be the first to say, my hand are seriously soft. Doing deadlifts etc I get pretty bad callus.

View with differ on straps but I agree with my trainer that straps wont help fix the problem. You need to work on your forearms etc rather than Band-aid it with straps. My 2c :D

haha I work on a computer too so my hands are massively feminine! lol

yeah I'm not sold on straps in general but really starting to consider them... I do all free weights so my forearms are pretty well developed but on heavy deadlifts my hands cop a hiding... makes it difficult to go onto other exercises after as my hands are whipped and I can't hold the weights

maybe I should just man up:)

Nothing wrong with wearing gloves to the gym...it's much safer than going the sweat with freeweights. You still get hardened hands from it, I still have calluses along the knuckle joints, they just aren't as bad as if I didn't wear gloves. I've gone on the occasional day without wearing gloves and had no problems because they are still a little hardened. And yeah, when it comes to holding a hand or doing the touchy feeling...I'll take my soft skin over a hand that is effectively a giant callus lol.

Well that sucks...must have a different grip to me or something.

fag.. lol

I work in IT and my hands are rough as fk... I work on cars, bikes, home rennos, etc..

I go into meetings with the GM and my hands are black LOL...

you don't get that badly calloused not wearing gloves, haha you guys are funny... you must be lifting more often or a lot more weight, cos my hands are like silk... even RBNT missus said so;) lol

lulz, you need to lift more

my missus likes guys with hair brah

For those of you with failing grip, try forearm exercises. I was failing at anything above 200kgs because of grip. After my forearms caught up, no more issues.

I get sweaty hands, I just use those paper towels at the gym that are used to wipe down a bench, work great lol.

Are you using clean or mixed grip? In other words do you turn one hand the opposite way?

If not then it's time to start using a mixed grip :D

225kg deadlift, I work in IT, and I don't have problems with grip.

For anyone who is trying heavy deadlifts without chalk, its dangerous, use chalk :nyaanyaa:

When you say straps are you referring to wrist wraps? I've never seen anyone use them for deadlifting, they are used for bench press though.

P.S. In competition gloves are not allowed.

I used to use straps a few years ago for most back excercises, It did help alot when going for heavier weight. But also put alot more stress on my wrist joints which has made me stop using them. Also with gloves I just get the cheap Harbinger ones off bodybuilding.com when I order my supps $10 a pair for the gloves. They do tear down the side of your hand quite easily. Usually just get a new pair every year.

As for mixed and clean grip I always stick to clean now. Came way to close to tearing bicep with the mixed grip.

hahaha yeah fair enough:)

yep use mixed grip... and lol at getting anywhere near 200kgs... I'd have to duct tape my hands to the bar!

re straps, I meant the ones where you actually strap your hands to the bar... seems kinda dangerous though?

I'm doing more olympic style lifts now, power cleans etc... got to the point where I'm tying weight on to do chins... its getting there, slowly... my old man is a PT so I get good advise, just have to watch my diet more... I haven't seen my abs in years... since back when I was too broke too eat and drink too much... being a pov uni student is awesome for your health! working in an office and 'doing lunch'... not so much

I made a pact with myself that by 30 I'd look like I did when I was 21 (minus the hair obviously RBNT)... I've got 7 more months...

I'm 87kg and 5'10" probably should be under 80kg... damn summer making me want to drink beers all the time

You are the same height as me. I was around 89kg around 7 months ago. Down to 80 now. Bigger up top than when i was 21 but still carrying a bit gut fat.Its hard to shift mang.

yeah same here, bigger up top but got gut fat to go with it... I eat pretty sensibly but reckon I'll have to do the full on bodybuilding diet to really shift it... I'd be happy to get down to 80kg

    • An update regarding the registration with the DVLA I sent off the paperwork the day after I collected the car from the port, two weeks later it was all returned with a letter explaining they have rejected the application. This was because the cheque was £20 short for the road tax (I used a price list I found online). Nevermind it is what it is, it was sent back to them the following day with a new cheque. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, I called them for an update to be told it had been rejected. Yesterday (16th September) I received the documents back along with another letter, this time it was because I didn't put an X in one box on the V750 (personalised number plate certificate), which declared that I had the rights to the personalised number plate. Why this wasn't mentioned in the first rejection letter, I don't know, but it could have saved this headache. The documents were sent back today, so fingers crossed third times a charm and it'll FINALLY be registered on the road just in time for the bad weather (woohoo!) To cheer myself up I lowered the front 25mm, was sick of seeing it sit like a monster truck. No idea how much clearance I'll have getting on and off the driveway, I'll worry about that when I can actually drive it
    • You're going to miss not worrying about rust in the strut towers like the Skyline shitboxes out there
    • A few little updates that weren't filmed due to not taking long to do or not interesting enough for their own video. My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) Also threw in a cup holder and a (empty) Boss Coffee can, because why not
    • GT-R clearly the better choice! The 300 is certainly not insaly fast but has a decent amount of poke. Does a nice little drift around the corners with a decent amount of throttle. It's VERY predictable in a slide too.  Feels so progressive! People probably presume there's a 25 year old driving it based on my behaviour this week! 🤣
    • Yeah Jap import. Fairlady Z then! I'm a bit the same.  They've been on my radar for a fair while but then just impulsively decided to buy one!  Was going to just buy an NA and add turbos to it later but decided to save the f'ing around and just buy the turbo version.
